Elpie:Gilco2: I have the kindle and love it most of the time. The screen is dark so has to be used in a very bright enviroment. Inside on an overcast day is too dark to read.
Your Kindle may be faulty. I've had mine for over 3 years now and have no problem reading on an overcast day or in a room inside when its dull outside.
That said, if you want to read in bed (or on planes), the Kindle lighted cover is fantastic. I use mine as a torch too - especially helpful when staying in hotels away from home.

vexxxboy: the Kobo is a lot cheaper and i like the fact it can read the Epub format but i love my kindle touch and there are thousands of free books from the kindle store you can download , and i found a online site that will convert epub into Mobi format in minutes , you upload the file and then download the converted file when its finished.
