Don't really care so much for Amazon's store, still have a few epubs from previous ipad ownage.

the Kobo is a lot cheaper and i like the fact it can read the Epub format but i love my kindle touch and there are thousands of free books from the kindle store you can download , and i found a online site that will convert epub into Mobi format in minutes , you upload the file and then download the converted file when its finished.

Our extended family buy a lot of e-books. Whatever reader you have you can't afford to dismiss any source, in many cases the Amazon Kindle version is half to a third of the price of an ePub version.

with some of the books i have converted , i would be very surprised and would love to meet the people with the same weird tastes in books. lol

I don't have an ereader (although I would like one, especially after trying to lug "A Clash of Kings" around) but helped my in-laws choose an ereader recently. We went for the Kobo because they predominantly use the library for books and wanted to continue doing so. I haven't actually heard if they've tried it yet or not but it's defintely something to consider. They have the Kobo touch versions and seemed very easy to use. I set them up with Calibre to manage their books and seems to work ok. I see the Kobo had a price drop too recently, I think I saw it for $159 somewhere. We got a case for one of them from skindigitalstore.com and it's quite a nice case, at a sharp price, and pretty quick (about a week) delivery.

Gilco2: I have the kindle and love it most of the time. The screen is dark so has to be used in a very bright enviroment. Inside on an overcast day is too dark to read.

Your Kindle may be faulty. I've had mine for over 3 years now and have no problem reading on an overcast day or in a room inside when its dull outside.
That said, if you want to read in bed (or on planes), the Kindle lighted cover is fantastic. I use mine as a torch too - especially helpful when staying in hotels away from home.

My Kindle touch arrived today. only 3 days. It seems tiny compared to my DX and Asus Transformer. Have turned it on and the screen is whiter and brighter than my DX. My DX is the graphite version with 50% contrast improvement. For me way too dark but the touch is good. Havent checked the firmware yet but one thing I have found is very slow after you slect an item. Wont be a problem when reading though. Biggest thing is getting used to the small size. I went for the Touch as they claim up to 2 months battery life.
I bought the Cover with light from Dicky Smith. It is the genuine Amazon Kindle cover.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

Open an Amazon account and get your Kindle and accessories delivered with 5 days.

Calibre is a must.

Having used both the Kobo and the Kindle, I prefer the Kobo. Feels lighter, nicer surround to hold on to. I also prefer the interface. And it supports library books. Not to mention cheaper.

sorry for bringing an old debate back to life, but I thought this was an interesting story about the Kobo manufacturer removing bad reviews and treating customers badly after launching a new product, that was said to have too many problems.

Ended up getting a Sony S Tablet which is actually pretty good, using Mantano e-Reader to read epubs. Have a friend with a Kindle which they also prefer over the Kobo. Very bad for Kobo to do that though, lucky I didn't end up buying one.
