SumnerBoy: I just ordered the WIFI starter kit - 2 bulbs, the WIFI bridge and a remote. Total cost (incl. delivery) was just under $NZD90. Figured it was worth a shot just for a play. I already have LEDs throughout my home and each of those were $40 a bulb, so this isn't very different.

Unfortunately all my LEDs are GU10 fittings, so I can only use these changeable ones in my table lamps etc.

I'm keen to know how these go, can you post back when you get them?

Antzzz: Stumbled across these guys the other day...

Their product doesn't even exist yet. I am browsing indigogo and found a bucket load of people trying to get funding for their "intelligent WiFi LED" - including Limitlessled, which as of now have raised $0.

Seriously, tech blogs are trawling Indiegogo and Kickstarter for stuff they can then post as the next big thing...

As I said before, I suspect many of these "projects" are only people trying to get money to bring in some Chinese products into the local markets.

Zigbee (or any other home automation) is a far far superior product. Yes it requires a much greater install but wifi controlled light bulbs just seem an extremely expensive gimmick. Especially at 340 for just 3 bulbs.

Zigbee offers much much greater lighting controls as well as heating, security, shades etc. Simply replacing your light bulbs is not a solution to home automation.

You would be talking about Phillips Hue at that price. It is directly aimed at iPad users which is a premium market anyway.

It is a good strategy to get zigbee standards into the home. Hue has Zigbee Lightlink certification. This will create new opportunities for Zigbee in a small way.

Hi Guys, I'm Hamish from Tauranga, NZ. I started designing the limitlessled system at the end of 2011 and throughout 2012 designed, tested, built, and tested some more. Couldn't get on kickstarter in July 2012 because New Zealanders are not allowed on it even though I met all the prerequisites and approvals, but didn't meet the final *subjective review*, so went to Indiegogo. My Indiegogo campaign back in August 2012 was dismal to say the least. So I canned the whole android base station in a box, canned the fancy remote control, and designed an extremely cut down version since I figured people didn't want to spend $150 on an android box. so I designed the $18USD one instead that takes usb power, contains adhoc wifi and lan wifi infrastructure mode capability to control our LimitlessLED bulbs. And yes Bayonet B22 lights was first on my list considering I live in Tauranga, and that's what all the homes here have. haha. I designed the light bulbs using Samsung LED chips, since you guys are geekzone so you can read the datasheet for bed time reading...

We put the lightbulbs through rigorous CE and EMC testing and approval last year, and we have been shipping LimitlessLED lightbulbs since December 2012. you can do a limitlessled search on youtube and vimeo, a few people have done unboxing of them, and are giving rave reviews about them. The online special is just for two more days because the demand is getting a bit too much for us. Just remember, it is just early days in the LED technology landscape.. people have equiv 150W lightbulbs these days, we are only just approached on the 60W with the LEDs without over-driving them, I want them to last a good while. Be prepared to take a bumb in brightness if you wanna give them a go. a couple of 60W in multiple fittings is heaps to light up lounges. Side lamps I don't recommend, firstly because the light from LED is omnidirectional, secondly because the cooling fins are designed to shed heat in a backwards direction. Most of all, have fun with them if you decide to give them a go.

oops, I meant side table lamps, they are upwards facing, and are probably of limited value. sideways fittings such as dome lights are fine, we have kitted out plenty of homes with this type of fitting. desk lamps are fine, they direct light downwards on to the desk. perfect.

Hey Hamish - thanks for those details - I must admit I was starting to worry a little as I ordered the starter kit a few weeks ago and hadn't heard anything.

I had a look on Youtube but the only videos I could find were from you guys. Can you send through some links to these reviews you mentioned?

Great work on getting this thing to market BTW - awesome to see Kiwis footing it against the big boys!!

I'm pretty keen to buy some also, but have yet to find any google results for anyone that has actually had them shipped.

I am a little worried these are vapourware.

What is the shipping time? - as SumnerBoy above says, he ordered his a while ago ans has not yet got them.

@dontpanic42, @antzzz why are we considered a knock-off? just because lifx gets all the attention via kickstarter and we get rejected from kickstarter because we are new zealanders, why does that make us the knock off? When we have had remote controllable RGB LEDs since 2011, LIFX still haven't even made theirs and its now 2013, maybe you can reconsider your comments, and bag them instead of us?

This doesn't sit well with me.

excuse me? the product images are all real on our view products page. and our products are extremely 100% representative. I took a quick look at apples website, I can't see a single pic of a real ipad on their site, its all renders.

is everyone that scared of the new technology that they have to write this sort of stuff? I'm actually quite appalled by our own New Zealanders trying to tackle us, thought we were on the same team.

hi gzt yep it exists for realz. we have been shipping since early December, and we are just working our way through the orders in the order they came in. we are currently working our way through the Mid January orders... The special pricing will end tomorrow, this should give us an opportunity to catch up.

personally i think its great new zealanders are making these, and youre taking the time to discuss it here

im in the process of building a house, and once its done I'll buy a few units. i would be more inclined to buy them if you had a windows phone app as well :)
