Yep the guy pulled the auctions and changed them to 10AH, he probably felt a bit harassed ;) I've decided not to get one, I wanted one for a couple of flights, but they're only 10 hours so my tablet will last a while and then I'll read my book.

I have to say, my TF101 tablet's still doing pretty well. It's about two and a half years old and still has decent battery life, though I'm on a custom ROM now.

This is my second NewTrent - this one is a larger capacity than my previous one, mainly because of the output for tablets now.

As above, you get what you pay for...

Shame Amazon won't ship them or any battery pack direct. Did I see it cost about $20 to reship via youshop? I thought youshop didn't like sending just batteries.

I have one of these to use my studio flash on location. 8.8AH at 15V, I guess that's like 24AH at 5V. It's heavy enough that it has a shoulder strap, and you're not allowed to take it on planes because it has too much lithium in it - if it short circuits it could explode and rupture the fuselage - though that seems unlikely.

The look interesting, nothing too revolutionary but good quality and good charging speed. If I could get one for low to moderate shipping I probably would, but shipping to NZ seems a bit expensive.

Advertised capacity can vary depending on which number the maker\seller chooses to display.
All of these external batteries contain 3.7v cells, but to charge another 3.7v device it needs to lift the voltage above 4.2v (usually they go to ~5v as per USB spec).

So lets say we have an external battery where the internal cell can store 10000mAh and we want to charge a 3.7v phone that has a 1650mAh battery (eg SGS2). To calculate the amount of 'usuable mAh' we'd get into the end device we need to convert the internal cell into mWh (milliWatt hours).

10000mAh *3.7v = 37000mWh

Then we calculate the output at 5v. From what I read a good charging circuit will lose about ~10% in the conversion from 3.7v to 5v.

37000mWh / 5v * 0.9 = 6660mAh

Then calculate how many full charges we'd get from this value.

6660mAh/ 1650 mAh = 4.

So a battery thats advertised as 10000mAh at best will only charge a 1650mAh device 4 times. Some brand name suppliers will advertise 6660mAh as the capacity rather than 10000mAh, but we all know the bigger numbers sell more.

This is the thing about Kickstarter projects. Most of them are nothing but something already there. This doesn't seem much different than the NewTrent I mentioned before. An example of this happening is the number of "WiFi-controlled LED lamps" around...

Just my rant about Kickstarter.
