When I contacted the bank regarding this issue I assured them that I had done everything in my power to inform Vivint of the cancellation and that the kept taking money from my account. BNZ then put some sort of block on them not allowing any more deductions from any of my accounts.

Another interesting find. After removing the unit to do some wall renovations, I had a good look inside and found this little gem. Perhaps some Telco/Spectum people  can inform regarding the legalities of this.

That might be why they are only using cellular communications in NZ rather than analog phone lines like the most domestic security alarms.

Wow, this direct debit info is a bit scary. They are a great convenience for well known NZ companies (power, telecomms, newspaper, rates etc) but overseas outfits are a real worry if we don't have any real say in stopping them.

Had one of these salesman come by last night, I would have thought that when he was told that we already have a monitored house alarm that would have been then end of it, but no he continued with the hard sell. 2nd try was "not interested as we already have an alarm", 3rd try was get the hell off my property before I remove you.....I think that finally sunk in, talk about pushy!

I had exactly the same experience with Vivint. I physically took the signed cancellation notice to their office and handed it to the woman in charge after 3 days into the trial, but money was still removed from my account and Vivint claimed I had not cancelled.

It took three lengthy calls and several emails before they would process my trial as "cancelled". I contacted ANZ to cancel any further payments, but am still waiting to see what happens. No-one has come to remove the equipment after 2 weeks.

I looked on the contract trying to find the section where I can keep the equipment after 20 days, but to no avail. I'm wondering if it was on the portion I had to remove to cancel. If anyone can point it out to me, I would be grateful.

I have been told to expect a refund, but nothing has come in yet and I suspect it won't be. If they do come to get the equipment, which I think is EXTREMELY unlikely, I won't be handing it over without the refund.

I took a picture of the slip before mailing it in.

Thanks - it does not surprise me that it is on the part of the contract which you lose by cancelling. :/

don't know why you guys are even bothering with this stuff.

a home security system is not something to buy from a door to door salesman, especially from an overseas company.

Does anyone know of any other installer of the 2Gig Control Panel / Z-Wave setup that Vivint are supplying?

I'm very interested in the hardware / setup that they offer, but not necessarily the contract and monitoring that comes with it, and the bulk of the associated costs. I would love to get the same or similar setup that they offer (and being able to monitor / arm / disarm via Alarm.com) but cant seem to find any other supplier / operator in NZ offering the same hardware package.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions for a complete home security / home automation system (including expansion for z-wave devices) any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
M

I don't know of anyone but I'll be able to tell you in couple years time when my VIVINT contract expires.  To set the system up isn't too difficult if you know a little about alarms or aren't afraid to google it up and get your hands dirty.

Getting hold of the hardware you'll probably have to make an offer to those people that cancelled their contract but no one collected the gear.  I'm sure these'll start popping up on trademe soon enough.  I'll probably snatch up a set and try install it at my mums place.

Just sign up for the 1 week trial, phone to cancel the next day and hope they don't come back to get it for 20 days. BAM! Free equipment!

Well, I never got the refund of my $170, but the 20 days finished yesterday, so now I own all the equipment: window/door sensors, cameras, motion detectors and panel - so I'm happy.
