I'll be interested to see how you go. I am the same, using chromecast as my main streaming device (predominately plex), but it is very slow to load and prone to dropping out among other minor bugs. I have wondered if the WiFi connection has anything to do with the issues. Before this thread I didn't know you could get an ethernet adaptor.

Where are you sourcing the parts from for NZ? dx.com or ebay maybe?

I have not had an issue with it at all, works everywhere I have tried in my 3 floor house.

I use it for youtube, photos and Spotify when needed.

My Chromecast works pretty reliably, but I chose to purchase an ethernet adaptor for it, like the one shown, to remove some of the stuttering. Occasionally, the wifi would dropout and Netflix would take a while to catch up again.

I actually bought two, as the other one is for the Nexus Player, which seems greatly improved now that it's on a cabled connection. It kept saying that it was disconnected from the wifi, but would show the SSID in the Wireless Settings, and then connect successfully every time you clicked the SSID. Not sure why it was so prone to falling off the network, but it runs a lot nicer on the ethernet adaptor.

I can highly recommend this mod.

From what I understand, entering incorrect WiFi details enables the Chromecast to connect a lot quicker when you utilise an ethernet adaptor.

I've never had a problem with my Chromecast v1, using it mostly for Lightbox, some YouTube and occasional Chrone browser tabs from my HTC One M7 or my wife's iPhone 5, and my daughter casts a lot of YouTube and some online gaming from Chrome on an HP laptop. The CCv1 was on the same floor of the house as the router, about 9 metres away, in a different room, but I have just moved it to a second TV in a spare room on another floor and it's still going OK.

I moved the CCv1 because I got the v2 last week and put that on the TV in the living room, where it's been fine so far. My plan was to have the v2 using the 5GHz band of my wifi, but the signal keeps dropping out, losing the connection. It's the router though - not the CC - as the same thing happens to my phone.

The parts arrived this morning.

I am delighted to advise it works!

The stability and image quality particularly on Google Photos is as I had hoped.

Mirroring is improved also with far more stability than before.

It is a very worthwhile upgrade if you have wireless issues.

Be warned - there are drivers to install and that is a small mission as the disc supplied does NOT work.
