Also easier to buy books for kindle. I buy books from Amazon on computer and they go straight to Kindle. On Kobo if I buy using computer I have to download to computer then connect kobo and transfer over. However if I buy from Kobo itself they download straight to Kobo. I don't quite understand your comment. I view the Kobo website on my PC and buy books (or tick the ones that I want to read the preview of), then on my Kobo I do a sync and the new books and previews appear on my Kobo, no need to hook my Kobo up to my PC. Is that not how you do it? The only time I have to connect my Kobo to my PC is if I'm using Calibre to load books I've got from somewhere other than Kobo, and even then it's possible to access Calibre wirelessly if you want to.

On my Kobo only books that bought from kobo ereader will download to it. Those bought using pc will not even by syncing download to the Kobo except by transferring with connected to PC. So I just use calibre to put them on now and just buy from amazon as the ones I buy are much cheaper there. Only buy from Kobobooks those amazon dont have which isnt many at all

Well that's pretty weird, you're meant to be able to log into the Kobo site on a PC (using the same account that you've got set up on your Kobo, obviously), buy books and then go to your Kobo and do a sync and have the books download onto the device. Works fine for me and I use it all the time. Do you get software updates when you do a sync? Kobo tend to bring out an update every 3 or 4 months.

Check your sync settings. Any books you buy from Kobo, whether via PC or an app on another device, or from the e-reader itself, all sync into the same account and can be loaded wirelessly onto the e-reader. Books you get from other sources usually have to be sideloaded using your PC - this can happen wirelessly too if you set up Calibre for wireless transfers. Overdrive, used by the libraries, is supported by Kobo (and not by Kindle outside of some libraries in the US). This uses Adobe Digital Editions & I'm not sure if you have to transfer the .epubs through a computer or not.

Anyhoo - getting kinda off topic here now. If there's any other questions about Kobos from anyone it might be a good idea to start a new thread.

Hi Thanks for your replies the wife looked at the offending kindle and it asked to be charged since charging is up an running again this is the 3rd time this has happened it seems to come back to life after about 3 days.

Is it possibility that its full and needs some old books deleting if so would you be able to do it with PC and a USB?

So at the moment she's happy will keep an eye open for any deals in the future.

I too would recommend one with a light screen, makes a bid difference when using at night. I personally use the Kobo, and calibre. I really love the way pocket works, I use that feature quite a lot, worth looking into before/if/when you make a final purchase.

That's good to hear but I think you need to be prepared for its demise. Six years is a long time. They do have a finite lifespan and its entirely possible that you are seeing the last gasps. I'd do the research and be prepared to purchase a new one.

Being full isn't a likely cause for this behaviour. A dying battery is much more likely.

Thanks I was looking forward to setting up new device, but my wife's not interested i anything technical and it aint broke (at the Moment)

My only concern with the lighting of e-ink devices, is that the light is quite blue, so not great a great light to be near prior to sleeping. eg. The lighting of new devices now change the lighting colour depending on the time of the day, and I believe apples next ios update will also add this feature to their devices. My old android phone with lollipop has this feature and it is really cool.
