I don't think you can transfer books between Amazon accounts, but I'm not sure.

With Calibre, all your ebooks regardless of source are treated as one library. You then choose which books to put on which device(s).

One feature of Calibre is a search engine, so you can specify a book by title/author and it will show all sources to buy that book from.

Should have been more specific, I was meaning "transfer to a device that's registered to an existing Kindle account", it sounds like Calibre is the answer.

I've noticed this discrepancy before but it's never been enough to bother with.

The one that really grinds my gears is books not being available to me; been trying to buy Red Storm Rising for two years and Amazon and Penguin are playing the blame game >>

What annoys me most is when the Kindle version is a multiple of the price of the paperback. A while back I was looking ay buying the Game of Thrones books on Kindle, but Amazon wanted 3x the paperback price for the kindle version of each book.

Was cheaper to buy the paperback from a local bookshop here in Australia, including all the printing, shipping costs it takes to get it here etc.

I' reading through George Pelecanos' back catalogue, and Amazon doesn't have them all. Wondering where to look for more.

I mostly get my e-books via Amazon particularly since they first bought, then reasonably tightly integrated, Audible. I probably listen more than I read now.

But for those that like science fiction and fantasy (not that geeks follow stereotypes or anything), have a look at Baen (try and get past the look of the site). Lots of pulp science fiction and space opera. They take a more enlightened approach than most, and often have for free the first book or two in a series (this list tends to revolve). I have most certainly spent money buying sequels of books that I initially read for free. And in this particular genre, let's face it, sequels can run to twenty-odd volumes.

It ain't high literature, but I like a bit of mindless escapism and a dozen pages of exposition on the theoretical physics driving the spaceship from time to time.

Though some of it is definitely cr@p.

Prices for the book in my example (Bleed for Me):

USD 6.53 = NZD 9.41 (amazon.com US price)

GBP 5.49 = NZD 11.25 (amazon.co.uk)

AUD 12.99 = NZD 14.42 (amazon.com.au)

USD 10.07 = NZD 14.51 (amazon.com NZ price)

So our Aussie mates get ripped off the same as us Kiwis...

Thanks for reminding me how good that book is - I read it in 1988 and it formed the revision for my naval operations and warfare exam (which I passed!)

ebook.de has it, you'll need to fiddle around with a few things like a VPN but I am now the proud owner for 7.69eur - and it's on my Kobo, via Calibre

Did you seriously think for 1 SECOND that e-Books were going to mean lower prices to the consumer in the long term? I have news for you. NO, NO, NO. It's so that distribution gets cheaper and all parties in the chain make MORE MONEY. Consumers were never supposed to benefit long term, they are the ones with all the money.

Next thing you'll tell me is you think Cloud is for the benefit of the consumer..

So agree. Just watch cloud services prices rise in the future. They initially sell at low prices to get people switching to them, and get them hooked, then they spike the prices. Basically software has moved to this model too, it is going to be a subscription instead of buying outright, where outright is usually cheaper in the long run..
