The D1 Mini looks an interesting device. I was originally looking at ethernet-rs232 adaptors, but for $10 that could be interesting, and an alternative to a Raspberry Pi. I need to do some more reading, but is the D1 Mini "easy" to use or requires a bit of programming etc?

Have you linked things up to openHAB or something similar?

D1 mini is just an esp8266, quite well supported in the ardiuno environment and loads of examples on how to do things with it.

Order plenty since they are so useful. Also the addon screens are pretty neat too.
