I'm running Spotify via chromecast audio into zone two analog input on my old onkyo receiver.

Works perfectly.

Does anyone have a good setup for an outdoor speaker setup running with Chromecast? In an ideal world there would exist a great integrated Chromecast device that can go outside, is splash or waterproof. Powered even, with a small integrated amp. Failing that, a good outdoor speaker setup with an input a Chromecast can plug into.

LG made one in their musicflow range - H4 - bit small and I dont think ever sold over this side of the world.

I have put a chromecast audio into my otherwise useless milwaukee powertool radio, but it powers off and turns off the accessory socket if there is nothing playing for a while, even when plugged in which is annoying, even if I was to directly power the chromecast off the power it doesnt power back on when audio is put into it.

Yeah I was looking at a 2nd chromecast-audio in the weekend for the bedroom so I can get multiroom going.  Apparently the speakers (which seem to be really hard to come by can't do it - yet?).

For outdoor, even though im running off an old amp via the lineout to a micro amp, you could add one of those with a chromecast as source as a little independent system.

Before I got an apple tv 4 I used to use a chromecast v1 quite extensively for lightbox and channel 4 uk.  And now would only use it for channel 4 as it's a better experience (IMO) that having to use airplay.  But with a change to a ubiquiti USG, I'd lost the ability to restrict the chromecast from accessing google's dns.....which I may have just solved today.

All in all, for their price they're pretty capable.  And while me preference is to not use my phone for control (is a PITA in a family situation), for a lot of stuff it works better.  Especially quick sharing on youtube.

I've got 2 chromecast audios and 3 LG speakers with google cast built in. The lg s0eakers recently got updated so you can configure them into multiroom groups with the Chromecast. Generally I find they work well. There is occasionally some flakyness but generally I would highly recommend them.

I also find the chromecast v2 very good.

I read that, but it seems the update has made them not show at all in the musicflow app on the phone, and I cant see in the windows app how to set them up to be chromecast instead of spotify connect, and the latest software seems to have broken the normal linked play option that the windows app has.

And typically stupid LG go and close the forum to move it somewhere else right after releasing half baked broken software.

I just use the Google home app for grouping. Seems to work well enough.

I should tell you all now that I purchased the CCs and I am happy with the results.

It works flawlessly between my tablet and each CC.

I did have an issue with using Chromium it would not recognise the CCs but a change to Chrome fixed that!

So taking the Kool Aid sometimes is good for you.smile
