ooo interesting, need a remote operated system.  Is this service likely to continue, what happens if Spark decide to end it?  can you still use it, i.e. replace the sim with another one and re-direct the storage elsewhere?  Would the app continue to work... I wouldn't want to get a system with limited life!

Not sure I see the issue if they're giving it away free :)

only issue i see if you buy additional sensors etc from them.  but if they close down shop in the 12 month contract, well then you just stop paying that contract so no big deal.  i wouldnt be surprised if they close up in the next 5 years, but until something better/cheaper comes along (and something will) this will do for now.

Yeah, I'm somewhat interested so was just browsing the site - not that I've kept up with the whole smarthome thing, but some of their addons do seem pricey, so yeah I guess if you're going for a bunch of extras then it does become more of a concern.

Will be interested in hearing your thoughts when yours arrives!

I just went with 2 standard motion sensors.  Already have the yale zwave deadlocks and a bunch of gen5/6 zwave power plugs that they support.

The camera looks a bit meh, ill just shove that in the garage.

I've asked them what will happen to the hardware should they shut the service down.  I like the fact you can switch between self and pro managed which adds a lot of value for someone like me who goes overseas for 5 weeks at a time!  Out of curiosity, are there any other smart home systems similar to this that can integrate with a managed provider?

surprised, its a true month not every 30 days (lightbox is every 30 days, so they think theres only 360 days in a year).  figured morepork being spark as well they would do the same.  glad they dont (i get paid monthly).

That is good. I hate the companies that bill every 28 days, 4 weeks, because even though it sounds like approx a month, it means oh have to pay them 13 times a year, rather than 12 for a proper calander month.

Use the alarm.com app rather than the Morepork app - same login - it's updated with new features faster and more often. Arm/disarm on today screen and by force touch on iPhone are great.

There is a alarm.com video doorbell and better camera available on Amazon

Thanks for the info about alarm.com.  Wish they support ring door bells (already have one :)), wemo devices (have heaps of those).

Anyone know where to get a compatible garage door opener here?  I need to replace mine, and was going to go with any old brand, but now after a Chamberlain MyQ one.

I think I might get the basic package, my old 1960s home doesn't have a lot of opening windows that someone could climb through... there should be enough in the kit to get me sorted and it fails, hten meh I haven't over spent.  Morepork indicated that they where getting new growth each quarter and that they don't intend to shut it down but a 'closed' smart system is always at risk I feel.

Last time I checked Lightbox used a different billing platform to Morepork, hence the ability to bill in months not days.

They seem to be doing a lot in the Tourism space from the amount of news articles out about it (did a quick Google news search) - would assume they're doing good given that.
