Quick update - used the trimmer this morning (had to clear space around our water tank access for someone to come and clean the tank) - worked very well, the 1100w motor had no trouble at all chewing through the hedge.

Only trouble is I will need a longer extension cord to do the rest of it, or a petrol/battery power head :P I'll need that pruner attachment too...

Must say I am tempted, but they do tend to break down, whereas electric motors take a licking and keep on kicking

As someone with young children who sleep during the day, an unexpected bonus from an electric weed whacker and cordless mower means I can easily garden while the wee one sleeps. The old petrol mower woke him up rather quickly.

OP, for what it's worth, I'd take a new Li-ion over Ni-CAD for light work, my Father in law has a high end Ni-CAD which outperformed my B&D Li-ion drill for torque, but his died twice while I still had charge at the end of the planterbox we were making.

That is more a reflection on a B&D drill than liion cells tho. I have one that was a gift from someone who refuses to shop at bunnings because mitre 10 is NZ owned - its an overpriced useless piece of crap compared to my entry level ryobi one, which is still a badly made piece of crap but a massive amount better than the B&D

your kids need to get use to more noise :)

mine will sleep through the vacuuming in the same room, along with Mowing the lawns.

keep them around noise from when they are born and they will sleep through most things

I have an idea that the 18V gear has been superseded by 40V units. Someone told me that I was better to go with the 40V devices but cannot confirm that. Not even sure who makes the 40V gear

Ryobi one+ in the US are marketed as 20v and their 36v range as 40v.

Ryobi is part of the same company that make AEG and Milwaukee tools...

TechTronic Industries. In fact, AEG multi tool heads will fit on Ryobi equipment.
