Rikkitic:... Are you operating your electronic devices from 12 volts or via an inverter? I don't think an inverter is bothered by slight source variations but my concern is running 12 volt devices directly from a variable source.

All devices we have rated for "12 volt" operation are either hard wired or pluged into cigarette type sockets.
We have MANY!
I have no concerns within the voltage range that we encounter. i.e. c13-14.2VDC.

Thanks. That is good to know. I just don't want to blow up my router since that is our only link to the outside world.

Also look at the anderson connectors for your 12v things. Very cheap off either hobbyking or the usual places - the 15, 30, and 45 are all interconnectable, its just the size of the wire that will fit that varies, very nice to be able to plug anything into anything else without worrying about male and female plugs or exposed ends when you use a plug the wrong way around like putting power on the plug of a ciggy lighter one.

As Andrew said it's going to cost you hundreds of dollars if you want to reliably power your router using solar power. A couple of big 30AH batteries, probably a couple of good sized 100W solar panels (maybe more), regulator, cable, wires, etc.

Or you get a Sentry Lite, a small battery for the UPS, a larger battery not connected for standby, and you use the mains. You can't beat the price of the mains.

It's probably cheaper to buy a small generator than to do small solar.

I will probably go with the Sentry Lite, but keep the door open for solar. It doesn't have to be all one or the other. Thanks again for helping clarify things for me.

A couple of smaller type car batteries wired together in parallel should give you the same result as one large high capacity battery.
