... Importing them isn't an option either. Only Aussie has the same frequency as NZ and they are more expensive by the time you import.

Is it that the US frequencies won't work here or just that the frequency they use isn't approved for use in NZ?

It's been discussed before. They are using licensed frequencies and if you are caught there are big fines. Don't even think about it.

They will function, right up until you're fined and forced to remove them.

I initially bought the NZ Insteon hub but when I found out it had no Alexa support, bought the US one thinking I could use it with a transformer.

Well I couldn't for a couple of reasons.  Firstly the Insteon hub communicates both via both pulses down the wiring and also RF (so to extend the range).  With a transformer the pulses would get lost and the RF frequencies don't match the switches etc. sold in NZ. So that was a dud. Luckily HABridge solved that.

But the prices are too high as has been noted before.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
