graphing (storing and reterving) was the biggest downfall in HA for me. i found i couldn't mix wanting a long term view and short term without it totally killing browsers in GPU draws.

Have a look at Grafana and InfluxDB. Haven't gone down this path myself (yet), but heard multiple people talking about it. The SQlite DB that HA uses OOTB slows the whole system down if you're not running a pretty basic system with few sensors.

I tend to have all my data directly in influxdb....and use grafana separately for graphing....but not extensively.

I assume HA has some sort of single state persistence?  In OH it's called mapdb.  With Series data going to influx/mysql

Opps... missed your post before I posted mine above

Booo, and you call yourself a geek. tongue-out

So I think I was on the right path.  Create all the sensors things, then the next step if to do all that group and entities stuff you've got.

I followed this guide quite some time back https://youtu.be/EsBtyF5tZQ4?t=491

Its using a fairly old version of HASS but the Groups/View is still valid

Has anybody gotten OpenHAB to discover their IoT devices on a separate subnet?

In my configuration.yaml I have the following:

group: !include groups.yaml

and then a separate file called groups.yaml that looks like this:

which does this in the UI:

Note you can have multiple tabs. I have my cameras in a separate tab.

could you please show the backend code for the climate.mitsubishi_heatpump line.

@ajobbins

Cheers

It probably depends how he is controlling the mitubishi heatpump. I use sensibo (which is wifi based and has an IR blaster to control the heatpump) and the setup is simply two lines like in the configuration.yaml file, like in these docs:

https://www.home-assistant.io/components/climate.sensibo/

However home assistant has 34 different climate components:

https://www.home-assistant.io/components/#climate

There is also an article here on controlling mitsubishis without an IR blaster:

I am using a ESP8266 based device to control the Mitsi HP over wifi with the code here, which also includes the Home Assistant integration code. It was about $25 in parts, and I like this better than a Sensibo or similar in that it's not just pushing a signal to the HP, but is a 2-way connection as it's hard wired into the HP control board. If I set the HP using the IR remote, I get the current state back into HA - something the IR push solutions can't do
