So I think I was on the right path. Create all the sensors things, then the next step if to do all that group and entities stuff you've got.

Its using a fairly old version of HASS but the Groups/View is still valid

Note you can have multiple tabs. I have my cameras in a separate tab.
could you please show the backend code for the climate.mitsubishi_heatpump line.

I am using a ESP8266 based device to control the Mitsi HP over wifi with the code here, which also includes the Home Assistant integration code. It was about $25 in parts, and I like this better than a Sensibo or similar in that it's not just pushing a signal to the HP, but is a 2-way connection as it's hard wired into the HP control board. If I set the HP using the IR remote, I get the current state back into HA - something the IR push solutions can't do
