If it is a case of voice control for Hue only working with a smart speaker-type device like Google Home Mini, then I am quite surprised.  There are plenty of videos on Youtube showing people controlling Hue lights with voice control on their Android phone.

I can control my Hues with my phone, but I couldn't until the GH device was available locally IIRC.

I *think* I had to use UK region originally. Before I got my first Home device

Now I have 9 Homes and 20+ hues, it's a no-brainer to at least get a mini, even my kids (in Kapiti) have one each (thanks to sales).

Once you have a Home device, Hue should work no matter what (don't quote me on this tho as it's been awhile).

I had to change my device from English (NZ) to English (AU) and restart it, wait a couple of hours and then I managed to get Home Control in action.

That was one of the suggestions I discovered from my searches.  I've changed it to English (US) in just about every place I could find, and that was a few hours ago, but it didn't make any difference.  Where specifically did you change the language?  Just want to make sure I haven't missed it somewhere...

In "Languages & Input".

Interesting... I can use Assistant voice commands to turn lights on and off but I can't see Hue lights in my Google Home app anymore.

Checked the app when I got home. Definitely on the same network but app still doesn't show Home Control.

It seems Google Home is a mess. I can certainly control lights from my smartphone but the option to manage/add/remove completely disappeared from the Google Home app now.

Presumably you added your Hue hub at some point though, through the app? But if you needed to do that now you couldn't?

Correct. I did it before, through the Google Home app. "Home Control", "Shopping List" were options there - they no longer exist for me now.

When you set it up originally, did you have a Google Home or Home Mini smart speaker?
