@surfisup1000 Which one are you referring to? I have posted a couple?

MJX Bugs 2 B2C Brushless RC Quadcopter - RTF

Because seems good value for the price. You're not really going to worry too much when it crashes or dies.

I saw some mention a few days ago of a $200 programmabe drone, that sounded interesting, could be fun to do something like that with my kid. Probably would be missing a lot of features though.

The Tello is nice because it does tricks and stuff

One of the youtube reviews of the tello showed a simple programming interface (both a visual designer for the algorithms and the ability to edit the simple commands behind it)  Reminded me a bit of  logo as a kid. Looked pretty simplistic but had basic commands and loops, etc.

(BTW where are you seeing the Bugs 2 for $200?  I see it for ~200USD but of course it's around 330NZD shipped)

Wow those are some good deals! Judging by a few reddit threads it looks like they can take a looong time to ship items and have pretty poor customer support, which puts me off a bit... but those prices are very tempting.

I've got a DJI Tello and it is quite a remarkable device for the price... Per comments above tho the camera in video mode tends to drop frames like crazy, and also the camera it uses on the underneath to steady itself (in lieu of GPS) occasionally freaks out and it starts to drift. It's pretty light and can't really handle winds above a very light breeze - I'm always worried it will get blown away. The wifi connection also is not especially grunty, which combined with the possibility of getting blown by a gust of wind does not make for a confident flying experience!

I've found the camera on it to not be too terrible - you can get some good shots if you try hard enough.

I recently had a very bad experience with Gear Best.  Claimed they shipped an item, which was never tracked beyond its supposed country of origin.  Tried to fob me off as my bad luck because I didn't take out shipping insurance.  Then tried to coerce me into cancelling the PayPal claim I raised against them.  Eventually received a paypal refund but will never use them again

Nope. Not all of those features for that price.

Options worth investigating at a higher price point:

  1. DJI Spark.
  2. Xiaomi Fimi.

PS: Tello is a fancy toy - brushed motors, no gimbal....PASS.

There is some Tello footage on youtube and it looks ok for what it is. I have a Spark and it's good. Don't fly it as much as my freestyle drones, it's a bit boring :) The Fimi looks good, but after GST and associated costs you might as well get the DJI.

Another thought, you can can sometimes pick up a 3DR solo for very little money. They are obsolete and you need to add your own action camera, but they fly really well. There are a few people trying to sell them for mega bucks but I got one from the Warehouse (of all places) as an online special last year for $300 (I think, maybe less). You can't really use it indoors, it's like a flying lawnmower.

No GST / Duty for any of the quads (or numerous other items) I have purchased via BG or GB.

Agree re freestyle (racing quads) that's more my thing as well - and I have an old Cx20 which has not been flown for 18 months now because of a need for speed : )
