I imagine OP is looking for something like the Sangean WFR-28 FM/Internet clock radio. Executive summary: choice of wake-to-FM or wake-to-internet-stream; excellent sound quality for a table radio; versatile alarm function; portable; line-out jack if you want to use it as a source for your audio system.

Unfortunately, in my experience (own two and sent a third one back after trialling it), the streaming-radio-alarm is not entirely reliable - for reasons I've been unable to determine. My older beast (monochrome screen, 2.4 GHz WiFi only) is usually faithful. The newer one (colour screen, 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi): less so.

If you go down this route I suggest paying the penalty and buying domestically (I believe there are available at Gary Anderson) to have the protection of the Consumer Guarantees Act.

As an alternative, what about buying an inexpensive Android phone and a decent speaker, and running one of the alarm clock apps? At least it'd be relatively secure from snooping.

If you did want to go the Smart Assistant route, the 8" display echo home is at an introductory "half-price" $134.50 sale at Noel Leemings for the next fortnight.

Sweet deal.

But the golden rule appears to be, "never pay full price for an Echo device". 😄

I use a Lenovo smart display for that purpose. I turn off the camera but I have it showing photos from my Google Photos album all the time when there  is light in the room. When it's dark it shows the time. And I have the alarm set to go off at the same time each morning (only Mondays to Fridays) playing a station from Iheart Radio. I bet I could set it to play something from TuneIn.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I think I bought it at Best Buy and had a friend bring it back for me. I actually have two of them, the 7" and 10". Love them both as Smart Assistants but also being able to watch Youtube, do Duo calling and of course the smart picture frame,

I got one of these:

https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/bundles/hifiberry-amp2-bundle-4/

I pay a $9 a year subscription to max2play for updates.  I got 22,000 FLAC songs [i never hardly ever listen to], all manner of worldwide radio stations.  It works pretty good. And you can program a wakeup alarm.  Just a different option.  Cheers
