On Android you can tether by USB... And share your phone's WiFi connection. Which might be better than the laptop's.

If the router is sitting on the floor move it to desk level or something like that. Extra height usually helps.

Mobile data hotspot or wifi/ tether are great ideas. Phones usually get hot and drain battery with this use, powersupply and cool location or fan are sensible down the track.

If the landlady is supposed to be providing wifi then ask her to order an extender or something to sort it out.

GoWiFi and PBTech are delivering orders. Get him to order an Ethernet cable and have the landlord/landlord plug it in to the back of her router.

Just so you know, my friends were able to buy a wi-fi extender and have it delivered. It has solved their problems.
