Just moved into our freshly build property with a super intelligence control system for lights, heating / cooling, ventilation, smoke alarms & security sensors, etc. However, the electrician didn't place the main powered smoke alarm in the right place and the master bedroom isn't technically covered. I can either wait another week while further wiring is added and a smoke alarm or I install a battery powered unit and move in. 

I choose to move in. 

Seeing that the Cavius wireless alarms are able to sync together and will all go off when one goes off. A neat trick that if you couple with Amazon Alexa's Guard feature means you've an internet savvy alarm system that will inform you when you're away from home. 

I tried to buy the two Cavius items - the 5 year smoke alarm and the Cavius 5 year heat alarm - from Bunnings earlier today. However, their EPOS system showed both items as EOL (End of Line) products and the staff were unsure why. Meanwhile, at the nearby Mitre10, I was able to buy both products without issue.

I've now installed them BEFORE seeing this thread. As the Cavius units are still valid for five years, I won't be swapping them.

I heard back from them as well to say that the https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/cavius-10-year-photoelectric-smoke-alarm-78mm-white/p/349295 ten-year smoke alarm is the replacement for the five-year smoke alarm.

Yeah, problem is that 78mm is a third more expensive than the 65mm, and more than twice the price if you use their price-match with Noel Leeming, so I'm getting what's left of the 65's. Also, if you read Consumer there are lots of complaints about ten-year alarms not getting anywhere near ten years of lifetime, so I'd prefer one where I can swap out a cheap CR123 to one that I have to throw away.
