Got it up and running. So far its detecting cars, dogs, and people. Really impressed. Just can't figure out how to get the event log to populate.

I just ordered the Coral from RS:

https://nz.rs-online.com/web/p/development-tool-accessories/2017821/

Planning to set it up on HA with Frigate.

A handy hint to anyone buying from Mouser.

The M2 Coral is ~$40 + $26 shipping, but if you buy two you get free shipping.

To populate EVENTS I think you need to enable clips

So under roles add "- clips", and then for camera:

clips:

  enabled: True

  retain: default: 4

The M2 adapter feels like a steal at ~$40, especially compared to the $200+ PBTech wants for the USB version.

I don't get why it's $200 at PBTech when RS is selling it for $100.

Are those two different models?

As far as I can tell they're the same Coral USB...does anyone have the link to the M.2 on PBtech's website? I can't seem to find it

Two variants of M.2 are available in RS:

Mouser is another option, shipping was around a week, same variations as RS, I got this one https://nz.mouser.com/ProductDetail/212-G650-04686-01

Gave up running it in a VM, passthrough was proving to be a pain. Installed Home Assistant on a spare NUC and its running really well. Took out the Wi-Fi card and swapped it for the Coral instead. Also running Zigbee2MQTT on it with a USB adapter. Tried Home Assistant OS but it was too restrictive so resorted back to Home Assistant Supervised on Debian 10 (same as my previous VM's).

Object detection seems to be really good. People detection seems the most accurate. Getting a few false positives on detecting cars due to cars parked in frame. My toddler gets detected as a cat as well. Not yet installed the HA integration or setup any automations based on Frigate.

I got the USB Coral last week and setup over the weekend with HA integration.

Working well so far even at night with faint light.

I have to mask the cars parked in the driveway as it keeps getting picked up for every motion detected (eg. trees or clouds).

I have set mine up as well. Using Frigate with HASSIO. I installed the official add-on but also had to install the HACS Frigate component as the official add-on didn't seem to create any entities.

It's working great and I cannot really believe a $40 device gives 20 ms real time detection. With all other AI detections I have tried (Amazon Rekognize, Deepstack, Tensorflow) I have had to use motion detection -> snapshot -> AI recognition -> Alert. Having realtime monitoring has increased the reliability and speed of detection.

Cheers, Matt.

Nice, thread, keen to have a play with this and will order my own Coral device (once I figure out if my NUC can accommodate a M.2 stick.)

Can I ask what cameras y'all using for this? I have a Wyze v2 flashed with the RTSP firmware but I'm sure there's better options. Anything that's battery powered? I'm afraid my Arlos don't have RTSP functionality...

Cheers

I use some POE Dahua's which are managed by Blue Iris and then RTSP to Frigate. To be honest I could now get rid of Blue Iris but it's pretty powerful so have just left it running.

I have NUC i3 with this G650-04528-01 Coral | Mouser and it's running well.

Cheers, Matt.
