No, its using the 2degrees ap requirements so should get them automatically and they come through if I put the sim in a phone but in the watch it doesn't work.
What do people recommend these days, it seems like there are a lot of bad reviews for both pixbee and space talk watches.
I'm after something that can use an esim or sim and supports two way audio (via a specific app is fine) as well as the ability to grab an update to date gps location. Geofencing world be a bonus. Don't care about text messaging or video calls or any other smart functions. Kids are currently 4 and 6, would like something for the six year old for when he starts walking to school over the next year or so.
Kids o clock seems to be another option that's cheaper.
Garmin bounce v2 seems expensive plus $25/mo subscription adds up

Our spacetalk has been ok. The recent upgrade to the software was crap at the start but its getting better and it works ok with some functions having improved. It does what is required and my daughter can get in touch with us when required. We use a sim sharing data from my partners 2degrees account and a wee bit of credit - this keeps it alive and means that she can video / message us without needing to use her own credit as its predmiantely data being consumed.
Our solution to this with our two kids is currently:
1) A Airtag in each kids bag - They're OK, they certainly don't update in real time though and they're quite approximate when they do update unless they've been still a while. Obs have to be in the Apple Ecosystem for this to work well.
2) The older child (12) has been given a dumbphone that can only call/text. Jokingly called "The Calculator" by her friends, but unlike her friends she's not obsessed by it - and while I have to do it manually, I can load music onto it via it's SDCARD so she can have tunes on the go which she's very happy with. $8 a month on 2D prepaid keeps it going just fine.

For number 2, which model phone?
For number 1, I put an AirTag in my pocket last time I did a running race (half marathon) and my family wanted to get a rough idea of when I would be coming past their viewing point. Worked well enough! :)
@cddt I feel a bit like I'm shilling for them (I promise i'm not) as I've mentioned them a number of times, but TonedDownTech AGM M6. Currently says sold out though - they have 2 other models, one's a flip phone.
It's a real call-back to the Nokia days - she charges it once a week (probably a bit more often now we've got music working on it, we had to put an SDCard in for this to be usable as the internal storage is something like 32Mb (not a typo))
