Rickles:

Make is  Jziki

Chinese manufacturer but meant to be reasonably reliable middle-of-the-road and for home use.

That narrows it down a little. Model number? Where did you buy it from?

Maybe ask the vendor where to buy an adapter. I see Dick Smiths sell one that needs "DC 6V/2A type-C adapter(not included)" which as people have mentioned above is a weird voltage setup.

Ok. Last attempt from me. Please, we are trying to help, so answer all the questions.....

What's the model number?

Who did you buy it from?

Have you tried asking that vendor for a 6v adapter?

Have you tried a USB wall plug that provides plenty of Amps? Like 2 or 3 Amps not 700mAmps.

nitro:

On 5v, when it needs 6v, it may under-read pressures at 83% - which is great and more like what you want to see. 😀

if it is a certified medical device, probably won't be able to sell it with that behaviour. even a set of four Alkaline/Lithium batteries, won't be at 6V for long. i would have thought it's more likely to run into issues inflating the cuff than a rather straightforward pressure read.

I thought the 😀 might be a strong indication that I was joking. Obviously a BP monitor that is not accurate and reliable is dangerous.

@huckster ... apologies, did not mean to keep you waiting, but lots of domestic chores on a Friday.

Anyway - no discernible model number; I think it was bought via TradeMe; no adapter sought to this point; yes used a higher amperage wall plug.

About to try fresh batteries after dinner.

We have an Omron BP monitor - model HEM-7121. This is a well-known brand and a common model.

It runs off 4x AA batteries - or an adapter (which we don’t have) - rating 6V DC 4W.

I thought I remembered seeing, when we bought it, that it would do 1,000 readings on a set of AAs. Just checked the manual and, yep - that’s what it says. So, in our case at least, I don’t imagine it would be particularly fussy whether it’s got 6V or 5V available to it.

There is a Jziki on TEMU with the USB port marked 5V

UPDATE:  Tried with fresh batteries and whilst some improvement in operation it fell at the last barrier (doesn't seem to fully inflate cuff enough for readings).

Suspect device has failed (about 5 years old).

Thanks all for your input.

I do find it strange that the vendor's own site doesn't list a power supply (well, I couldn't find one).
