An IR Blaster like Broadlink would probably be simple and cheap to implement.

yeah I have a couple and I use home assistant to trigger things on my stereo in a cupboard.

 

If one of these was near the telly, and a camera, with something running to control it, you could remotely control the tv to fix it.

 

but I still think most smart TVs have ability to remotely set the current app via API, that would be easier than looking at a screen and operating a remote.
