So, can wdtv play a dvd from a dvd folder structure on the harddrive?

What about a bluray?

WDTV live and Egreat both play VOB's - only difference is the Egreat plays BD-ISO and RM's

Not sure why anyone would both with those formats to be honest...

Only problem with WDTV Live is it doesn't support our AAC-LATM encapsuled audio on Freeview DTT. So I can't play back my raw captures unless I transcode across to AAC, AC3 etc.

Neither does the A1xx series of Popcorn hours, or eGreat machines or pretty much everything on the market (Netgear device, seagate one. However the A200/C200 devices from Popcorn Hour do.

Yes it can play the video fine you just may come across a video with x264 or H264 that has an audio track that isn't supported by the WDTV so you will get video and no audio. This is a problem i have seen before with the WDTV

Thanx for reminding me of the A200. It's not too badly priced.

Looking at getting one myself. Also saw a demo this morning with teh guy that put GBPVR on the A100 demoing the current stateof his A200 development. Starting to look good.

what is the movie library interface like in WDTV live? im playing with xbmc on a laptop and i really like the way it grabs movie info and scrapers. does wdtv live shows movie posters/thumbnails?

Yes it does thumbnail, list, and preview views.

My WDYV (not live) doesnt thumbnail video well at all, if at all.

Looks like the WDTV Live has problems recognizing some USB hard disks.

I wouldn't call that lots of failures, there a few which is normal for a new product, they just reveal their numbers a bit more than someone like WD would

But if you follow thru the PCH threads for all their products it's a common theme. "I upgraded my software and now have a brick" or "It died after a couple of hours of use" or "I turned the power on todays and nothing" My A100 has not been upgraded for about 15 months due to the fact I don't want to brick it and not be able to recover it.

If you go to any products forum page (if they have one that is) you will find people posting about problems, people just don't go there and say this part of my product is working fine, they only ever use the forums to get help with a problem so you can never and should never even think about trying to find the extent of a product fault by users on their forum because you are going to get people with problems you are not going to get the other much larger portion that are not having problems with their device because pick any product by any brand that has a forum available, you will find a fault that is more common than any other, does this mean that this means there is a major flaw with the product? No it just simply means that this problem is more common than any other, and EVERY product by EVERY brand has faulty units, its inevitable.

And in terms of bricking a unit, first of all most users don't even know what bricking a unit means they just think if anything is unusable that its bricked, that is false, bricking means there are absolutely no signs that it is working.
