And with 3G you would be able to take Kindle with you while you travel and buy/download books from Amazon on the go without worrying about roaming costs.

You don't have to worry about contracts, it comes ready to use. You pay the data as part of the book cost, that's all.

It uses Vodafone, but you don't deal with them, ever.

Does anyone know what happens if you go abroad? Does the 3G only work in countries where the Kindle is supported, any country with 3G or none at all?

The 3G works everywhere, and free. That's why I bought the 3G+WiFi version - if I am overseas I can buy a book without having to worry if there isn't a WiFi AP around.

I bought the wifi only version. Was debating a bit over whether or not to get the 3G version but I figure I can pop into McDonalds or Starbucks if I'm overseas, or use my iphone as an AP. Plus I'm not sure if I'm sold into the Kindle ecosystem yet- the wifi only one is a great price to try it out.

Yeah me too. I'm still not sure i'm sold on the whole ebook/eink reader (only) thing. wifi one is cheap enough to blow ~$200 on and not worry too much if it doesn't work out.

I suppose I could always flick it off on TM or something.

And here is why reading on the Kindle is easier than reading on, let's say, iPad...

Very interesting read. Personally I find the iPad fine to read on and very good for magazines. But then my wife does not really like reading from it so is a individual thing.
