Er I think you're thinking way too in depth... You just change your location on account settings on amazon.com Seems to work for me okay. Been using my kindle For about a month tho. I'm not sure if amazon cares enough to do crack down on it. Besides just argue that you're on holiday or something? Forgot to change to nz store? There could be a number of perfectly legitimate reasons.

I'm not thinking too in depth at all. There are countless reports on the internet if you do but the most basic of searches of people having their accounts suspended/closed for being out of region.
You may be asked to provide your US residency documents to prove you are "on holiday" and if you can't do this you could potentially lose your account (and of course that means access to your books).
onetapu: Does anyone have a handle on the availability of Amazon ebooks to NZ readers of the Kindle yet? I have a sub with Audible.com for audible books which I download onto my MP3 player. The newly-released contemporary fiction titles I want to read are more often than not "not available in my geographical zone". Are we going to have the same issue with Amazon ebooks, due to restrictions put on ebooks by the publishers? Is there any way one can get around the issue, and thereby have the same access to all books available to US readers?
Yes. Email the publisher/author and tell them you're pirating their stuff because amazon/the publisher isn't letting you buy it. Download the DRM/region free ebook from torrent. Done.
+1 To that. Love my kindle, although I am confused as to why I can buy a printed book from amazon and have it shipped here, but can't buy a digital version,
Lucky for me Im using my friend's address. I could easily get him to buy my books. And amazon would have to be feeling very mean to remove access. theywould just block you from buying more or force you to change to your proper store.

You obviously aren't familiar with the infamous *remote* deletion of 1984 and Animal Farm from Kindles that people had already bought the books on?
Yea I am actually... It was a different situation though. And look how that turned out... Personal apology from the CEO and a promise not to do that again. All I'm saying is that should you want to, it's quite easy to change to the store and get around anything they have in place to stop you from doing so. If you are afraid of them deleting your books just backup to your computer and remove the drm. Quite easily done - just search the mobileread forums

I already do that, that's a separate issue to that of suspending accounts though.
Okay amazon won't delete or suspend your account. They would only make you prove you are in US or make you change stores - that's if they found out. Why? Because it's bad customer service and for a company that always claims to have the best service it must obviously be very important to them.
Also wouldn't it be safe to say that they wouldn't want to risk any further bad media attention over a few dollars and cents on the ebooks you bought from them. Easier to make you change store than to get a bad rep

Not sure if you got the point I was making all along - they WILL delete/suspend accounts for out of region IP "breaches". It has happened to people (unsure of exact details but perhaps they weren't able to provide proof of US residency).
Anyway I've made the point clear enough and won't comment further on it as this is pointless.
And I've made my point clear too. They WONT delete your account. They will just make you change your store back to what it Should be and give you a warning.
