With shipito, I used DHL, cheaper and better service

MOBILE: Huawei P30

All up should be about NZ$250... same price as the Kobo Touch at Whitcoulls but way better product!

Interested to hear how it goes. FYI, the Kobo touch is now priced $199 at Whitcoulls.

Handy tip for anyone looking at ordering though a freight forwarder in the USA (Comgateway , Shipito etc) on an amazon account you can get a 30 day free trial to amazon prime, which offers free 2 day shipping within USA or $3.99 One day shipping, all you need to do is go to the prime page on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/prime) and select activate my free trial, once you have done that you can proceed with your order and it will offer for you to activate the prime shipping rates at checkout. All you need to do within a month is go to your manage prime account page and select "Do not upgrade" and you should get 30 days trial for free with no upgrade at the end of it.

This is allowing me to get a kindle touch in before Christmas, ordering now for delivery on Tuesday the 13th in the USA to Comgateway, which meets their chirstmas delivery deadlines of packages needing to arrive at their premises by the 14th.

I have used both Comgateway before and Shipito, both provide a equally good service. Comgateway ship exclusively via DHL where Shipito offer a greater range of services including USPS, UPS, TNT, DHL and Fedex as well as their own 'shipito airmail'.

This time I decided to go with comgateway because shipito sound like they are overwhelmed at the moment and I'm not sure that they will be able to process it in time for shipment, below is shipito's latest update dated 10/12/2011:

Shipito : As of now the situation is getting worse. We still don't have enough employees to even catch up pace with the volume. We get more requests each day for consolidations than we are able to process (while working overtime and extended hours).

Most of the packages are mail out with no delay every day. Some packages are 2-3 days delayed. The biggest back log is in consolidations and we are not able to get quick fix at this moment. It will not improve immediately. We are really overwhelmed. We hired and still hiring more help, but it is not easy to clear the back log within days. It will take us weeks with the current volume. Some customers waited from August and accumulated hundreds of packages and now they are nervous that we are behind. The huge consolidations or consolidations with many special requests take a lot of time and there is no way to speed them up. "

It sounds as though most of their issues are with consolidation so there is a chance if you only have one package it won't be delayed too much, but I also have a $15 discount code for comgateway (Easy to receive one, I got one for being a longstanding customer but you can also get them for signing up as someone else has mentioned), so I decided to go with them.

Just a bit of information for anyone looking to order, especially in the coming days.

If I don't receive it before Christmas that's life :)

Final update: Arrived yesterday. Works perfectly. Very happy :-)

As an aside, the 'special offers" are hilarious-- last one was audio book of Alec Blawin reading the Dali lama's works.

Excellent! Are you registering it to your amazon account-- soem posts in this forum seem to indicate that locks you into more expensive NZ dollar books-- though I may be a bit confused on that. can you advise what you did?

I have a US model Kindle 3 with 3G in white that I got a friend to bring back from Connecticut to me. I usually leave my Amazon account set to USA for the free 3G web browsing (which works wonderfully here, roams on all three carriers :) but have switched it to New Zealand and back depending on book availability and pricing. Haven't had any problems!

yep thats the non 3G version.... extra $50 for free 3G for life seemed liek a good idea at the time :-) But must admit havnt use dit yet, my wifi serves well for buying books

Mine arrived at comgateway this morning, I purchased the Kindle Touch w/ special offers and overnight USA shipping for $102.99 USD. Showed up in my comgateway account this evening, so it took around 8 hours to be added to my account which I was impressed with given they must be overloaded trying to get Christmas gifts out, I assume it will be sent out tomorrow as I paid tonight.

Shipping via DHL express to NZ is $35 USD after $15 USD discount code used. I'm hoping it will arrive around Monday / Tuesday next week, if it does that makes it a week from me ordering on Amazon to it arriving on my doorstep, which isn't bad considering it went via Freight forwarder at Christmas.

Total cost shipped to NZ will be around $185 NZD, which i'm very happy with considering Dick Smith sell the Kindle 4 non touch for $189 NZD, I get it cheaper and a model up!

The only thing I will need to learn to put up with is the 'special offer' ads, but if they annoy me that much I can always pay the extra to get them removed.

Only problem is that my understanding is that for the US model they charge you a fee for some content to cover the roaming data (the US Kindles are locked to AT&T, and roam onto the local networks, while the NZ models are locked to Vodafone). So far it looks like this is just newspapers and magazines.

One other one to try if Shipito is overwhelmed is MyUS. My friend in Australia uses them a lot. She found them because they're always getting mentioned in the Sydney Morning Herald. I've always had great service with them! They say they're the largest so I doubt they'll have the same problems that Shipito is having. That would be a nightmare for me not being able to trust a company to ship my stuff on time.

I think shipito is still ok as long as you are not wanting to consolidate packages. They dealt with my Kindle in less than a day which was good considering the other delay I had.
Kindle was originally supposed to arrive at shipito last Wed, I wait a couple of days after this and still have no tracking updates beyond the ticket had been printed so email UPS. They say they never actually received the package so I get onto Amazon, almost immediately I have an email saying it must have gotten lost and that they will either send a new one or give a refund.
All and all things are about a wk behind my original plan but according to tracking my package is somewhere between Auckland and Dunedin so should still make it on time to give for xmas.

True, but I use consolidation all the time. So much cheaper. I got all my Christmas shopping done, shipped to my MyUS address and it all arrived within 3 days in one neat package. My life was so much easier this season. If you're doing more USA shopping, I would recommend MyUS for sure.

Just ordered another touch for my brother for xmas... from yesterday order at Amazon, 1 day shipping ($18) to express NZ delivery ($44) they say it will be here by 21st -thats 6 days to NZ incl Amazon time locally! I gotta give comgateway.com credit for that, even if they are more expensive!

Not sure thats correct- Ive been play with the 3G (incl experimental browser-- which is slow BTW!) and no charges on my Amazon credit card. How could charge me without me specifically agreeing to it anyway? so far its FREE
