I wonder if you can call your own Echo at home from your phone.

Will the Echo ring or auto answer or not possible at all?

Not sure it will be much, you will have to pay GST and Customs for two.

Can't seem to get the messaging / calling options ? Was trying via iPad app, but then thought probably needs a phone. So installed app on android phone using the apk method - it's the latest app (same as number mentioned above). I've even tried using a vpn connection when running the app.
NZ google playstore account. UK amazon account (echo location is a UK address, time zone NZ).
Any help greatly appreciated.

Since you will need a reshipper anyway, get them to split the package up into 2 boxes and send direct to each person so under the theshold?

Have had fun using our two echoes as intercoms. Great that this works with NZ numbers :)

When you say two echoes as intercoms, were you able to get the two echoes to talk to each other under the same amazon account?

Yes both on same account - I ask it to call *me* and my partner can answer it in the other room.

Like, we have a fairly small house so we can still hear each other anyway - but no denying it's fun :)

My son was given a Dot and is trying to set it up at Auckland Univ using their student WiFi. But he tells me the Dot just won't find the WiFi despite all the usual tricks like resetting the Dot, using a browser etc.  Since there is now audio calling it would be cool to be able to call that way I am now wondering if it has to do the WiFi channels being used by the University and the fact the Dot is set to US channels.

Now thinking maybe if I buy a WiFi repeater that can retransmit the WiFi signal using different bands maybe the Dot can see that?  Thoughts?
