Is he on the guest one or the UoA-WiFi one? If on the UoA-WiFi one, I don't think Amazon supports WPA2-Enterprise.

He's a student so I guess it's the UoA-WiFi one. He can connect with his phone, tablet PC and desktop (using a WiFi dongle).

So would using a WiFi repeater solve that assuming the WiFi repeater could pick up WPA2-Enterprise?

Looks like there may be issues around the Amazon calling feature in echos

TL;DR - Once turned on there is no way to manage/block who can "ring" the echo, Amazon is working on a solution, due in the next few weeks

Get him to try the Guest one first - it's got a captive portal and he can just use his UPI (username) and password. I'm pretty sure the Echo supports captive portal auth capabilities. Although it might not have a consistent connection with the guest one so your idea might be better.

I saw there is a guest wifi at the university but then looks like you still have to log on to use it. I'm not sure how that would work with the echo but I will ask my son to find out. Thanks.

Ambi v2 on KS looks reasonable if you need integration between your heat pump and Amazon Echo. Skill to be added later this year. I've gone out on a whim and made a pledge.

I'm still not getting how this works, particularly how the phone fits into it. My interest is having an intercom downstairs, where the two older kids bedrooms are. If they had dots in their room, and I want to tell them to get off their damn iPads and come upstairs for dinner, will this solution work? Why do they need a phone? Are the phones are on the home wifi and no need for cellular data? Are the dots connected to the home wifi or to the phones?

If you have the Echo app installed on your phone and are logged in as the same account as your echo when someone calls you both the phone and echo will ring. You can call just the echo for the other party by saying "Alexa, Call Bob's Echo".

My echo dots are on their way. Amazon have a special price for ordering 3 or more, and shipping them via youshop the price of 3 comes to NZ$188 for the dots + NZ$16 for the Youshop shipping, so NZ$68 each. Not bad and a lot cheaper than most of the new ones on Trademe.

For people who have bought an Amazon Echo on Amazon and got it shipped via YouShop, did you get away with the minimum price band for shipping on YouShop?

Hi, I'm not aware of this "minimum price band" you mention. All I know is that Youshop got the package from Amazon and charged my $16 to send it here. The parcel was 34 cm × 24 cm × 6 cm and "volumetric weight" 0.98kg ...

Is $16 the minumum price? If so then it is sufficiently cheap. I have been stung by youshop in the past when small items were delivered to them in insanely large packaging.

Yeah $16 bucks is pretty good - it must be the minimum that Matthew mentioned.

But holy cow, Youshop can get extremely expensive for odd shape or large packages.
