I think my echo dot cost about $25 to deliver, and it was by itself. But it comes in quite a small box, but amazons outer box is quite big.

Anyone having trouble with their echo dot regularly losing it's connection recently? Mine had been working fine for about 6 months, but now it regularly has a big delay after I ask it do to something, and often after a long wait it will go red and say the echo has lost it's connection. But after that it works fine again for a while. It is very close to wifi . Sometime it can just take a very long time to answer. eg after telling it to turn on the lights it can literally take a minute to do it, and then after it has turned them on, it says that that it couldn't find the lights.

One reason I usually pay a bit more for bhphototovideo.com is they have cheap shipping directly to NZ.

But I find myself often wanting to buy something (impulsively) during the sabbath (their business is very religious and won't accept any orders or anything on Saturdays between certain times).

really, I got to the credit card page (after selecting delivery address) with echo dots in my cart (dont want to buy any more right now as I've got some coming from amazon), at what step does it stop you?

But holy cow, Youshop can get extremely expensive for odd shape or large packages.

Ah not quite the minimum as I searched up. The $16 postage from YouShop must be the new economy package, which charges $9 per package and $3.50 per 500 grams. So they must've charged you guys 1KG volumetric weight.

My Echo look arrived this week. Quite gimmicky but the Mrs loves it. Other than needing to side load the app she works fine. The speaker and mic array are no were near as good as either the dot or the echo itself so I wouldn't want to use it as a primary device. Bit of a laugh getting fashion advice from it.

Hi all, OK I now have my Dots and have setup the first one. OMG that was surprsingly difficult despite decades of IT experience as a contract SQL/C/C++/Java/ERP software developer! I guess I am becoming a senile old fart...

Anyway - it now works beautifully. The voice recognition is near perfect, as the synthesised voice. Kids think it is a hoot asking Alexa all sorts of rude things.

I really want to use the new Alexa calling functionality as an intercom in the house - put one dot in the kitchen/lounge upstairs and one in each bedroom in the downstairs teenager's dungeon complex.

Of the three dots ordered I've only setup one so far. They seem to have come pre-configured based on my ordering Amazon account - they arrived called "john's dot 1" through "johns dot 3" and I think they are all configured to my own amazon account. In order to use them as home intercoms do I need to re-assign two of them to (new) amazon accounts in the names of the two teenagers?

In the online articles about using the calling functionality they talk about contacts... what are these contacts? Can't see anywhere in the web app to configure them.

As it happens the teenagers have phones so I can configure that in as required. However the third spawn is not old enough for a phone yet. How would I configure him in the absence of a phone number?

It would be nice if the location could be properly configured - seems like it can only accept USA zip codes. At least the timezone can now be configured in the app...

The alexa app seems to do it from your phone contacts, and uses phone number as an identifier.

Ive not seen how to get it to have multiple phone numbers into one alexa account, and none of my friends with echos are available for calling because I don't know their phone numbers or have them saved in my phone. It seems to be a very half baked implementation, probably rushed to compete with google.

I think currently you would have to set up each dot with a different accounts.
