In the Alexa app you can now set a time zone for NZ.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Yep and I can confirm that works. Now when I ask the time I get the NZ time. But I want to set the location so I can get the weather forecast for the day without having to say the location etc.

dont think weather works here at all, asking "alexa, whats the weather in auckland"... nothing.  asking "alexa, whats the weather in sydney" gives you the weather.  so i dont think the weather provider amazon uses knows NZ exists....

I use the big sky skill for weather. It is good.

It worked for me yesterday! Will try it again when I get home to confirm the exact words. IIRC I had to say "Auckland New Zealand" as it kept giving me the weather in Oakland.

whats the phrase for this?  would love it to be more like kodi/windows were you can choose a default skill for things, so you could use a different weather provider (I guess you can do this with music...)

You have to enable the big sky skill in the app and go to the big sky website to set your location. Then you simply say "Alexa, ask big sky about the weather"

Just read that the big echo can now pass audio out to bluetooth speakers, which will give it better quality than inbuilt at least. Can't find any details on codec support for the echo devices and the dot doesnt seem to sound very good when going to my apt-x capable reciever. But this is a welcome change.

Really wish they all had outputs on them. The tap has an input of all things, not sure why you would want to put sound into something that bad. Now if only they'd put optical on the dot it would be much better.

Has anyone used the hue emulation binding on OH2 yet?  I've tested it and think its fairly average.  Likewise with the Openhab skill in Alexa, I don't want to have to ask Openhab to do something, I just want to ask to turn lights on/off etc.

Does bwssystems HA bridge still work with OH2?  I assume it does (that's what I was running with OH1.x, it its pretty damn good) so might stick with that for now.

But... if you have some nice BT speakers why would you buy the big echo when the dot is cheaper?

Because you already have it? Because its better for voice feedback or low volume music playback than the dot?
