kryptonjohn: Just say "play x" or "play x from y". The source can be defaulted and you already have the bt connected. Or say "connect bluetooth" first.

I want to do it over Wifi not Bluetooth?

How do you default the source?

The app on your phone lets you add sources and choose the default.

Still no stations on spotify, and its hit and miss with playlists - I will either get told there is no playlist called discover weekly, or it will play one from many weeks ago.

Seeing as I succumbed and ordered an Echo, can I just ask a dumb newbie question before Youshop eventually delivers it ?

I presume it gets linked to my US Amazon account. In that case as that's one account (for one person ?) does that mean it'll only respond to one person or will it respond to everyone in the house ?

networkn:

I've love a way to say "Play x from y from Spotify and cast it to my Home Theatre.

Anyone know of a addon or skill that allows you to send your music to another network enabled speaker?

I made the worlds most difficult solution for this a while ago

it will respond to everyone, but its tied to one amazon account, so if you have multiple prime memberships and you want to order from 2 different ones you cant.   but i wouldnt want to order anything via voice tbh.  so we just use it for a shared shopping list, controlling the house, setting timers, calling other rooms as a intercom etc.

Thanks, that makes things easier. Actually have US and UK accounts, so guess I'd have to de-register it and re-register if I ever wanted to swap accounts.

Was thinking of just getting a bluetooth speaker, but thought, hey it's cheap (for now) and hopefully it'll work with Emby as well. Intercom sounds useful, though guess I'd need to wait for another Prime Day and buy a Dot or two for that.

The intercom works quite well - there's a bit of delay, but I find that the kids downstairs have their headphones on so don't hear the echo ringing them. I need some way of breaking into their iPads to tell them it's time to come up for dinner!

I use a app called "Screen Time" for android.  its a monthly subscription, but can set limits on tablets/smartphones and you can manually lock them for x minutes.

Hmmm, I need that for IOS... But I'm a bit useless at anything Apple - the kids know far more about it than me. :-\

Ah yes, the dinner time yell. Always wanted to get one of those compressed air can with a fog horn gizmo on top to get there attention, never seems to happen somehow - believe they sell them in boating emporiums...
