That's more industrial than many would want, but you are completely right here. Spend a thousand or so and install your own downstream meter and you'll get all you need, and networkable to your hearts content.

I think analysis needs to be done via the online data supplied indirectly off the meter and back through the companies web site. As with many energy saving initiatives, the cost to outfit is often close to the savings to be made. It's over to the homeowner to make the call as to whether getting some usable data for free from the companies website is really bad enough to warrant spending a lot to gather this information themselves.

Just been looking at what I can get out of the genesis website from the smart meter..

My telling the flatties GF to use less power has been ineffective...

Wow, we are 4 in the house, and the kids are 10 and 12. All 4 shower (not together) and my wife is great in the kitchen (and in the shower, sorry, focus). We use 14,000 units per year. Looks like Richms is on 85 average per day which is 31,000 per year i.e. more than double what we do. Fire the GF (or shall I say the "visitor"). That graph clearly shows the spike at dinner time and the 2 humps after morning and evening shower (sorry, focus, I mean bumps in power usage, must be Friday) and the offset due to evening heater use. Nice to see the data they provide, and it makes sense.

Old spinning disc power meters start off slightly fast and slows over time as they age. This is to allow for increase in bearing resistance. Electronic meters are very accurate and do not overread unless faulty, which seldom happens. (Info from Enermet engineer who has built their production test systems for a very long time.)

We are building features into our wireless modules that will allow for measurement per device or outlet. This is of course more focussed at the user and is limited to locations/devices/fittings where our modules are installed but we expect to have basic level reporting on consumption in the next 4 weeks. I can't really elaborate too much at this stage, but as developments occur, I will update here and on our facebook page.

From this thread I can gather that an overall consumption data feed is somewhat useful (largely based around the energy company requirements) but as a user, the reporting of draw per device (or per room in the case of the guest girlfriend) would help inspire action
