LimitlessLED: @dontpanic42, @antzzz why are we considered a knock-off? just because lifx gets all the attention via kickstarter and we get rejected from kickstarter because we are new zealanders, why does that make us the knock off? When we have had remote controllable RGB LEDs since 2011, LIFX still haven't even made theirs and its now 2013, maybe you can reconsider your comments, and bag them instead of us?

Hamish, you'll note in my post that I specifically called out that you guys are going down a different technical path to LIFX in terms of how you are doing the comms with the bulbs (and in my opinion your solution seems the more cost-effective one). So I'm not saying that you are a knock-off at all - indeed the whole point of starting this thread was to call attention to what appeared to be a Kiwi company playing in this space.

I did think it was necessary to sound a note of caution however due to the only references out there at the time I posted were being people who had placed orders and had not yet received the bulbs. There was also concern being expressed in threads regarding your apps.

As others have said I do look forward to seeing some reviews from those in this thread when they get their bulbs. Knowing how much work it is to bring a product like this to market I wish you guys all the best - this is a technology that is coming of age!

is everyone that scared of the new technology that they have to write this sort of stuff? I'm actually quite appalled by our own New Zealanders trying to tackle us, thought we were on the same team.

When I wrote my comment I had no idea this was a New Zealand initiative. It doesn't change my mind about Kickstarter - it seems the majority of projects there are in the vapourware class. They are changing the rules though to require at least a working prototype.

In your specific case, I'm sorry you feel offended, but I've seem a lot of projects that are merely rebadged Chinese products so I approach everything with doubt.

Also it seems quite a few "WiFi controlled LED" projects showed up on these crowdfunding sites lately, so it's pretty hard to know which one is legit, which one is a copycat, which one is just some cheap Asian product being rebranded.

That's just how I feel about crowdsourcing. Sure, there are great projects unfortunately yours came at the same time a wave of similar ones appeared online.

Oh well, just ordered some. It looks like they are shipping from NZ, as when I changed country the freight went from $32 something to $4.50. Two bulbs plus iPhone App /WiFi controller and remote for $87 NZD.

Will post back when I receive them with a review. Limitless said 3-6 weeks for delivery. The clock starts...

I apologise if my comments were taken the wrong way. That was not my intention.
I think it's still fair to say that in this unique situation, people were justified to be a little hesitant when there are so many "similar", yet, seemingly vapour-ware products floating around at the same time.

RE: LIFX. I agree. It seems unfair that Kiwi companies and ideas can't make it through on the Kickstarter platform. In saying that, Indiegogo is actually starting to seem like the better platform anyway.

When it comes to New Zealanders "trying to tackle us", I actually think this is a good thing.
Not a good thing because they are trying to tackle you, but because it's good to see New Zealanders have a critical and sceptical mind. This may sound fairly pessimistic, but I believe it only serves to help people weed out the bad apples.

While I was initially sceptical, I also think it's great that Kiwis like yourself are just "getting on with it", and forging ahead with innovative ideas such as yours.

Would you be willing to send out a few sample units to geekzoners for review?
If so, I nominate richms or Niel, or any of the main protagonists in this thread. That is, of course, if they want to participate, and if you are willing to send a few review units out.
There is nothing more powerful than the recommendation of trusted peers.

Thanks Hamish. I have placed an order, and will post back here upon receipt of the bulbs.

I have ordered the RGB bulbs, and will be using them as 'mood' lighting ideally. They will be going into a couple of sockets that we don't normally turn on anyway.

Hi Hamish , are there any plans in the near future to bringing out a 10 watt (100 WATT ) bulb? The only thing holding me back from purchasing is that I want to use them in downlights and I feel sixty watts (eqiv) not quite enough.
