Go 6 x 9's + mdf parcel tray in the back; they wont' take up any more room really and the bass will be much better. The more you can "seal" the cavity (foam, etc around the tray) the better too.
I had some decent 6x9s (admittedly in a sedan) many years ago, with an MDF parcel tray, well sealed into the boot and running off a head unit. The bass was quite adequate. Sometimes people would ask if I had a sub. 6" speakers just don't really cut it, IMO.
All rated power figures are meaningless unless they are at the same distortion, enclosure and frequency range.
They get away with stupid figures like 200w on a 6" speaker by doing it in an enclosure that will allow for almost no cone movement and a frequency that it ends up with the most impedance. Then take the voltage applied that the speaker and ohms law the power off the lowest nominal impedance to get an impressive high number.
Just like they rate car head deck power into 3.2 ohms on a 15.6v supply to get a number close to twice what you will get in real life.
I am running the Pioneer MVH-355BT also, into a pair of Sony 6" and Pioneer 6.5", and they rock. I also have an amplified 'boom-box' sub in the boot, so that take a lot of the Bass work of the door speakers, but the Pioneer pumps a lot of audio into the door speakers (will rattle my jeans if I turn them up).
On the OEM speakers thing - don't get the Bose ones (I have 4 Bose speakers if anyone wants them) for a non-Bose head unit - the Bose Speakers are only 1 ohm, so go very loud but will probably end up cooking your Head unit or Amp.
I'd love to see someone actually drive 300W into each of 4 car speakers. That's more than 85A drawn from the alternator at 14V... And when the alternator fails, the battery will last 15 minutes before it is dead (battery capacity is rated at 20h discharge, is much less at high current).

I'm probably lucky I have a 140A alternator with the car having 10 speakers from the factory ;p (in my old car, the speakers were Nokia! I haven't pulled these ones out)

Good excuse to get an amp. Wire those speakers in series - 2 pairs of 2. Then connect them to the amp. Almost all car amps can run 2 ohm loads so you will be fine.
