So agree. Just watch cloud services prices rise in the future. They initially sell at low prices to get people switching to them, and get them hooked, then they spike the prices. Basically software has moved to this model too, it is going to be a subscription instead of buying outright, where outright is usually cheaper in the long run..

Heh we have already seen customers hit with big increases by Microsoft, and 3 lots of proprietary ERP/management systems all went up by about 44% on average. Horrendous.

Exactly. The difference between books and videos, in terms of obtaining "unavailable" content or refusing to be ripped off due to location, is that books are extremely easy to download and share. I know several people who have offered me literally thousands of pirated bestseller books on HDD, but I would rather buy the ones I want to read at a fair price (ie a price that is available in other countries). If books go the way of video, with "exclusive" rights sold to local providers who aim to rort their local customers, it's easy to predict what will happen

I can't say I've ever seen a book on Kindle that cost more than the same book at Whitcoulls. Its rare to see one (that I'm looking for) that costs more than half as much as buying new from Whitcoulls (or Paper Plus).

That's been my experience but I have read that Amazon uses pricing algorithms and this may explain why occasionally some pricing anomalies creep in.

Same here. I always got books at prices that can be between 1/3 to 1/2 of Wellington prices.

Same here. I always got books at prices that can be between 1/3 to 1/2 of Wellington prices.

Which is why I continue to buy the e-books, despite being annoyed by the apparent rip-off.

Yup, same here.

Weirdly though, the last 3 Jack Reacher Novels have been out in paperback 10 days before available on Amazon. That was a deal breaker for me, I always buy his books day 1 and read them in a single sitting.
