Nice - hard to get an idea of size from the pictures. That door/window sensor looks the business. Much cheaper than the Z-Wave equivalents. Don't get the mesh network which is pretty handy for a bigger house, but for a lot of cases they would be just fine.
Those door/window sensors look good, the pics on the website made them look massive.
I assume for them to work I need the gateway. http://www.banggood.com/Original-Xiaomi-Upgrade-Smart-Home-WiFi-Remote-Control-Multi-functional-Gateway-p-1047282.html

@SumnerBoy what product(s) did you buy?
Just ordered another 3 temp sensors, 2 magnet sensors, and a motion sensor. Got everything hooked up to openHAB now via MQTT. Working nicely so far.
Also got it setup so openHAB can switch the gateway LED on/off - not that I really need that since the gateway is in a hallways cupboard...
Mail notifier is high on my wish list, but i have a vertical slot (no flap) mailbox, so haven't figured out a good way to generate the mail-delivered events...
I try to use MQTT anywhere I can. YMMV. I like it due to the fact it decouples all the different systems. So once I setup my Xiaomi gateway to publish MQTT messages, I can then consume these in openHAB and use in automation rules or consume them in InfluxDB (via Telegraf) and display in Grafana dashboards.
Plus there is no need to add yet another binding to openHAB - everything is handled via the MQTT binding.
Once your automation system gets beyond a certain point, these types of common comms/protocols make life so much easier, both in maintenance and adding new devices etc.
Same. I setup all messages via MQTT.
There are MQTT apps available for mobile if you want to listen or publish to a particular topic (eg. Garage door monitor/opener). Sort of like a shortcut, bypassing Openhab or Home Assistant user interface.
Downside is your MQTT server is now a very critical piece of equipment. When it goes down, the whole automation in the house goes down with it.
