Ragnor: I'm tossing up between getting a WDTV HD Live or Asus O!Play.
The most important factors for this device for me are:
- Sub $250 ideally
- Plays media from network shares (SMB or NFS)
- Wireless or network cable is fine either way
- Plays common container formats AVI, MKV, MP4
- Plays the most common video/video codecs (xvid, divx, x.264, ac3)
- Remote doesn't suck
- The UI is fairly easy to use for non geeks
WDTV Live is $240ish from XP Computers
Asus O!Play is currently on special at Computer Lounge for $190ish
Most forums/reviews indicate the WDTV (sigma chipet) has the better UI and slightly better picture quality and overall less problems than the Asus (realtek) chipset.
Q: Are there any other devices available right now in NZ worth considering? If so, what and from where?
PC: 3.3ghz Core i5-2500, 8gb DDR3, ATI Radeon 5850, 27" QHD IPS Monitor
Mobile Phone: iPhone 5 32gb Graphite.
