kryptonjohn:Yep, but if someone uses the old remote to change the source, or turn it off, does it get out of sync and need to be got back in sync manually?
Cheers

Ok once I get it going will hide the remotes!

@razor2000nz - I can envisage one problem with scripting activities... Say I want to script watching Roku. One of the steps would be to select input source HDMI2. But that's not a simple button press. If currently on HDMI1, with the TV remote I would press "Source" then move down one to HDMI2 and select it. But if it was already on HDMI2 or some other source it wouldn't work.
Is there a way around that?
One feature of the original Harmony remotes I have used is that, they often have discrete codes for selecting inputs when the manufacturer's remote only has Select Source, down etc.
So you might be able to find the discrete code for each input and use that in your activities.

Not only that, but Harmony knows what apps you have installed on your Roku, so you can set up an activity for anyone of them and then say to Alexa - "turn on Hulu", and magically, Hulu appears. The harmony app will walk you through setting up the activities and part of that is selecting which devices are involved - ie, receiver, tv and roku - which input each of them should be on, which device controls the volume etc. It's awesome.
Clever!
For all this to work you have to share a lot of account details between your vendors though - bit scary sometimes.
Would anyone happen to know if you can use bluetooth to play music to an Echo using a Windows Phone ? I know there isn't an Alexa app for Windows Phone but can they still be paired up despite this. I tried having a go but no joy, am hoping I'm just doing something wrong (unusually).

I got my Echo set up today , Spotify hooked up easy as

Amazon Echo
Amazon Dot
Lifx Bulbs
Nexus 5X
Magic TV 3600
Sony EX700
Unblocking service
Amazon Fire TV x 2 = Netflix USA + Amazon Prime
Lightbox
You're a better geek than I am. I found setting up the first echo to be really difficult. Subsequent ones pretty easy.

Come on, your a Ultimate Geek too
Everythink I know geeky I gleaned from the Geekzone site :)

Amazon Dot

These things suck on alexa. I have the broadlink in one room, and a harmony in another and there is no way to let alexa know which echo should control which "television" device. It seems arbitary and goes to the one that I last set up (I think)
So far to go, and because its a mishmash of different vendors etc they will never get their crap sorted out I feel.
tiger6969: Hi all,
Just bought an echo dot from amazon and cannot get it to log on to my Wi-Fi network at home. Have app, gets as far as switching my tablet from home Wi-Fi to amazon Wi-Fi theme errors out...could anyone offer me a solution?

Does your tablet also have 3G/4G? I used my phone and found I needed to disconnect mobile data as it would fall back on that and fail to connect to the device.
Yay. I just ordered an Echo Dot Gen2 to see what all the fuss is about via Youshop. It should arrive in Portland tomorrow :D
Has anyone managed to connect via Bluetooth from ones echo to imac . Then play the music chosen and playing on the echo through the imac.....?
Im thinking that if I cant find a way I will put a Bluetooth receiver on my speakers and connect the imac and the alexa to that Bluetooth receiver and do it that way
