Dont know if anyone is interested but I have just got a couple of power socket plugs that are controllable by Alexa echo "alexa turn on lounge light" They sell for between $17 to 22usd depending day of the week it seems. I ve set a link to a page that will take you to the aliexpress site. I know nothing of whether they are approved nz or whatever, you will have to make that decision. All I can tell you is they are easy to setup and work out the box.

I've had many issues with things from AliExpress that claim Alexa support. The LEDs I got will set up and detect but when I try to control by Alexa they dont work since I'm on the China cloud server not the usa one.

Yep know what you mean That swhy I was letting people know that I have actually bought installed and tested and they work for me should work for you im guessing

Having just updated my Alexa app, I can now set correct address, country and postcode details in settings. Alexa correctly reports location, weather, and has told me where local petrol stations are. Finally!

Probably because Amazon is about to open the Australian warehouse so it probably will be sold in AU/NZ soon.

This feels like a dumb question, but how did you update it - I can't see the option to do that. You are talking about the Alexa app on your mobile device, right?

Edit: What version do you have? Alexa app on my phone is client version 1.24.2255.0 bridge version 2.0.1216.2 and echo dots are version 582230020.

And what's more... If you download the Amazon Echo app from the Amazon App Store, and manage your Amazon Fire TV you can now set a New Zealand address and timezone as well.

Yes, the Alexa app on my phone. I have version 1.24.2436.0, which I had to download and sideload. It's the August 16 version.

Is there some specific reason why Auckland is always used in the time zone selection rather then the capital Wellington?

I have downloaded the Alexa app 1.0.205.0-prod_82031410 from the Amazon Appstore and it worked for my Amazon Fire TV.

No. It's the Alexa configuration, not the Amazon Fire TV Settings.

NZ locations - Great! - at least the weather is a bit more local (not as good as Big sky however). Its Maori Pronunciation needs a bit of work though. Local knowledge is also a bit limited - apparently, my local Macca's is 33Km away, and the closest Petrol Station is a toss up between around the corner and 50Kms. But promising signs that NZ will get more of Amazons services when they open in Australia.
