Anyone managed to change the device location for their Amazon Echo from the iOS Alexa app? It only shows US and UK addresses when I try to enter my address there.

Anything else I need to do to make it work?

I have version 2.1.104 (released 10th of August) according to the App store. The app itself shows version 1.24.2436.0.

Have been able to change the time zone (Pacific ocean -> New Zealand). But no luck with adding a New Zealand address in device location.

On Android you enter the address as "[street], [city], NZ" and the correct NZ Post code. No addresses will appear on selection list, you just save it.

Perhaps try the same on iOS?

Yip, managed to do it fine. Ignore the addresses that come up when you type your address in, just type your whole address with the postcode and it should come up when you hit save.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - setting up Amazon devices is not consumer appliance grade stuff. I found it quite obscure and awkward and am not a technophobe luddite by any means! Amazon need to put a little more effort onto that side of things IMHO

my only issue, and it wasnt ease of use its more annoyance, was I had to enter the address for every device (i have 6 echos). android keyboard made the process pretty easy with auto predicting everything after i pressed "1" (my house number), but still having to go to every device to set this was kind of a pain. yeah sure its flexible, but they should make it use "global settings" and let each unit override global if one is in a different location (which is probably very unlikely).

You have to enter address in the correct format which alone has stymied some users here - and it confuses that by over-typing some predictive USA address as you are trying to do it. But before you get that far you have to find the APK on an unofficial site (I know if several sites but not all had this August update) because Amazon don't supply the app in NZ. You may also may need to make sure you have your Amazon account based in the US. And you have to set the address against the device not the app device.

Try explaining that through the phone to your mum. That's what I mean about it not being consumer appliance grade setup complexity.

I think that's a little unfair, seeing as we have been using them in a location that is not yet officially supported. If you were in the US or UK this stuff is super easy, and you can download the app without a VPN. Let's hope they announce official NZ support soon, and also do shopping here from their Australian warehouses.

Fair comment... we're pushing a little past what Amazon intended! People here need to know that they will have to deal with that and understand that at the moment, it's not as easy as it could be.

I don't recall having to download the upgraded app specifically. When I was the posting I just went to the app and it was already at the right level. The only tricky part was working out you can type the address in and ignore the predictive address search.

On the matter of less technically able folks using this app, I would imagine somebody would have purchased the Echo as a gift and then set it up for them :-)

Is the app no longer in the Amazon store ? I got it from there awhile back. Maybe I was lucky with the address because it found mine straight away didn't even have to specify New Zealand.

For a product not supported in this country setup is not too bad.

Having local content definitively prove that Amazon will be entering the New Zealand market and therefore the fire TV will be for sale. If you read up Amazon is creating a movie with the All Blacks in it. Does this mean that they may outbid Sky TV for rugby sport?

Let's hope so!

Ditched sky many many months ago due to being sick of feeling ripped off. Rather go to the pub to watch sports and spend that equivalent monthly sky subscription on pints and a feed

Dont know if anyone is interested but I have just got a couple of power socket plugs that are controllable by Alexa echo "alexa turn on lounge light" They sell for between $17 to 22usd depending day of the week it seems. I ve set a link to a page that will take you to the aliexpress site. I know nothing of whether they are approved nz or whatever, you will have to make that decision. All I can tell you is they are easy to setup and work out the box.
