I have around 30 now (whole house) and are very happy and are available from the Apple Store in NZ for quite a long time.  As you said the 110V ones will work in 240V but it will reduce the life of them and Philips say not to do it.

Thanks, this convinced me to try the starter pack.

The etailer homeconcepts.co.nz used to be cheaper than the Apple Store. but now they have the same RRP, they may be more expensive with freight. But it may be useful to have a local (?) supplier.

Looks like Apple Store have put their price up to $90 per bulb whereas homeconcepts is still $80.

Now with 'normal' LED bulbs at the supermarket for $15 it is really hard to justify the premium for the Hue....

Bringing back an old thread but better to ask those who have it.

Just got a new generation bridge and paired ok with my account. Added IFTTT to change lights through voice command via Amazon Alexa - this was done via web browser by giving access to both Amazon and Hue accounts.

Now I want to pair the bridge with other services that require the bridge link button to be pressed. I tried a couple of times but the other device can't see the bridge. One question: when I push the link button, is the blue circle around it supposed to blink or remain steady?

Just to give Freitasm's post a nudge and ask a couple of questions which seem dumb...

1. There are two bridges, a new one and an old one - do they look different? Was the old one a circle and the new one a square?
2. Do other non-Philips bulbs work with the bridge and then also homekit? Eg. GE Link?
3. Does the bridge work with a Nest Thermostat, and therefore Homekit?
4. Is it possible to buy the starter white kit with bayonet bulbs?

Thanks in advance for your knowledge and/or superior google-fu

Jon

The old bridge is round, the new is square-ish (rounded corners)

Not sure about Nest/Bridge. But the new bridge works with Homekit (the old doesn't).

4. Is it possible to buy the starter white kit with bayonet bulbs?

I see Mitre 10, Noel Leeming and some others now have several of the Philips Hue products. Noel Leeming seemed to have the largest selection of products last I checked.

There is a start-kit with white bayonet bulbs available on Amazon.co.uk.

Would be surprised if thats not a kit sold in NZ, given how much its used.

Thanks, living in the UK so was wondering if availability of bayonets was regional as they seem to be trickier to come across.

Any thoughts on whether other bulbs work, there are a couple of reddit posts which skirt the issue but cant find any real guidance.

Also are the ones you linked to the coloured ones and the regular old-style incandescent shaped ones the white ones?

Philips Hue Lux is the one I linked to. They allow you to change the warmth of the white light (from cold to warm). The "regular old-style incandescent shaped ones" I think are older models than the ones you can see in the link I provided. They are just 2700 kelvin (fairly warm). From what I can see they seem to be a product that is going out of production. (I am guessing that based on these bulbs not being featured on meethue.com, as far as I can see).

Since Philips reversed their decision to lock out ZLL based light bulbs, has anyone found a source of 3rd party Zigbee light bulbs in NZ to pair to a Hue?  i.e. Cree, Osram etc hopefully they are cheaper.

Haven't tried 3rd party bulbs yet, but am using a FLS-PP PWM controller (from Amazon) that works great with RGB/RGBW (or just W) LED strips and isn't power limited (well upto 6A) like the Hue Lightstrips with the Hue bridge.

Does this mean I can buy other non-Philips but Zigbee Light enabled bulbs and use with my kit?

I think it's a case of YMMV aside from the FLS-PP controllers I've been using, I believe there's quite good support of the Osram Lightify bulbs on the Hue Bridge. Amazon UK is another useful place for Hue bulbs - every now and then the 3x Bulb kits are on sale...
