Cool - thanks mauricio. (I read the faq earlier, did not and could not find anything about using it as a speaker)

Got my invite for a USD$99.00 Echo yesterday...3 days after requesting a unit. Accepted the invite but it shows 'Out of Stock' and suggested a delivery sometime in June or early July. So a bit of a wait before it ships.

Anyways Fire TV arriving next week to play with and compare to my current CS968/RK3188 Android TV vs PS3 as current Hometheatre client. Must admit the PS3 with Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and Neflix apps along with Uninversal Media Server running on my Windows 2012 R2 Servers as DNLA to the pS3 is still the better device in terms of audio/video formats and ease of use. Not as pretty as XBMC or Plex on Android TV. Said goodbye to N$133 Sky subscription last month......

Now they've added voice activation of Wemo devices this has become a lot more interesting to me. The discount covers about half of my yearly Prime membership which is nice, so hopefully I'll have one soon to play with.

Looks like I've missed out on some sort of discount, as it's listed as US$149 even with the Prime discount (down from $199) rather than US$99 as per above - or is there just a "1" missing in the price there?

Anyone who doesn't want their one any more or doesn't intend to use their invite, I will happy take a second unit off your hands.

The prime discount only applied until the 7th of April. I got in just in time. I am still waiting for mine to ship.

And no. You can't have mine either!

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

What is required for a device to be an Airplay Target or Client? I am wondering what it would take to be able to play to or use Echo as Airplay target, or send the music it's playing to my Home Theatre Amp.

Rappelle: Would this be a good solution for music in the bathroom? Seems like it'd be pretty good if you can just say 'Play a ____ station on Pandora'. Is the speaker / music quality good? (Or should I look for a better/alternative solution)

I have found Audio Quality is better than I expected, but no voice recognition system works well with background noise, so I'd think that was the issue. Also moisture!

So can it play music from my phone as opposed to streaming from an on-line service? I don't mean simply as a Blue Tooth speaker, more along the lines of "Alexa, play Rubber Soul by the Beatles"?

No, it will play music you select in the Echo App from your phone, and any music that is on your phone which is also in your Amazon music collect, or if you have prime, anything it can find in the Amazon prime music collections, you can link iHeartradio and Pandora.

So does the Echo phone App see audio files on the phone and list them in a coherent fashion?

No I think you are misunderstanding. It doesn't play media from your phone. You can tell Echo to play a bit of music from your phone, but it will still come from the cloud. It's not playing the music stored on your phone to the Echo directly.

Ah, OK. Thanks for the clarification.
