If you purchase a Smart Switch, can you continue to use the Smart Switch if you terminate Morepork, or is it locked to the Morepork system?

Smart switches are not locked to Morepork, but you would have to check what other system would support it.

vera and openhab support the smart switch.  basically I would be surprised if any zwave solution didnt support those devices, they are very popular.

fibaro home center might not, thats a little touchy that system.  really nice interface, but 3rd party support is lacking (which always put me off it).

It's looks like a long summer. The free starter kit 'summer special' which ended 31 Jan has now miraculously extended to 28 Feb. Expect an autumn, winter and spring sale in coming months?

I have previously criticized Morepork pricing as ridiculous (remember $1,000 upfront for the starter kit!) - but the current 'special' offer, finally sees the product hitting reasonable/competitive value for the money IMHO.

their prices are in line with other zwave devices.  i think the smoke alarm is expensive, but other zwave smoke alarms are similar price.

Hi All

Anyone else had issues with the door/window sensors for this system? I'm on my second set of sensors now and still get 'malfunction'/'bypassed' whenever I set the system. Would having a ZigBee, (Philips Hue), network operating in the same house affect the Morepork system? I really cant think of anything else which would bugger up this system so comprehensively in a fairly standard domestic setting - any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Just about to throw it in the bin as it hasn't worked properly since day one and the 'Customer Service' is appalling - never able to speak to the same person twice, (so constantly having to re-explain the problem), and scripted responses which show clearly they haven't read your e-mails.

Shame it's got these faults as otherwise it would be a good system.

Yes, I'm getting continuous Sensor 'xx' offline for no reason.  I've bypassed them for the moment so I get that too but the offline/online thing is happening alot on all of them.

are the sensors far away from the panel?  the zwave network has issues with long distances if there are no repeaters in between (power points, or anything that is always on), where the signal will get lost.

I havent had any issues with sensors with my system,  I am using 2 yale deadlocks and 3 power point adapters aswell.

I sympathise entirely - compared to the Swann One system, (which I've had and returned to the retailer as it was useless), it's a great system with a really good user interface but these poxy little 40 buck sensors let the whole thing down.

It took me 34 e-mails just to get two sensors replaced and I set the alarm fully yesterday with the 2 brand new sensors - five 'Malfunctions'/'Bypassed' straight away.

Think I've reached my tolerance limit now and I'm going to cancel the whole thing - I hope you have better luck.

No, house is 95m2 so generally 12m x 15m with 10mm gib and standard stud framing.  Just randomly seems to happen, no consistency in the issue at all.

2 sensors are line of sight and about 5m away - the third is about 9m away through a thin internal door. They just will not work in my House and Spark say they've not experienced this issue before, (Lie!).

Hi like you I have an extended z-wave network and a Philips hue system, and haven't had the same issues you are with the door/window sensors with my Morepork, the security sensors are on a different RF frequency than z-wave.

Is this issue occurring on all your door/window sensors, or only specific ones?  If only specific ones, can you try moving them to a location that has a working door/window sensor, and see if they exhibit the same fault?

Hi Benoire,

Is it consistently happening to the same door/window sensors, or to all of them?  If only specific ones, can you try moving them to a location that has a working door/window sensor, and see if they exhibit the same fault?

If the company decides to shut in the future, can this system be run independently without a significant loss in features? Trying to avoid a tivo situation.

It uses alarm.com basically, and so if Morepork ceases to exist then the only reseller in NZ disappears (unless picked up by someone else).  The system cannot work without alarm.com access, so yes a risk but given I think the basic system is free bar the sub cost its not a problem unless you start adding features.
