From what I've researched so far, the easiest way to shred the scrap is going to be a blender (Will it blend?) to reduce the scrap to pieces small enough to put through the feeder. 

 

 

From what I've seen, some kind of industrial-grade paper shredder is the answer. If you have a blender, you need some way to automatically remove the small pieces.

I do have an old blender (a basic one with glass jug) and it’s partially successful but with the following issues;
Not very consistent, either pieces don’t break down small enough or i get dust.
Heat builds up even if I do short bursts (10 seconds)

I think the better way is the low rpm shredders with counter-rotating metal teeth but damned if I can find anything like that around here. I don’t really have the space, tools and skills to diy that sort of thing.
Cheapest I’ve seen to date is on filmmaker.eu, if you look at the models one listing has a schematic file but the impression I have is getting a metal shop around here to do this as a one-off would still cost quite a bit.
