phants:
This link http://davidgaughran.wordpress.com/2011/12/01/amazon-opens-kindle-stores-in-spain-italy-abolishes-surcharge/ and follow the link with this post for the full list of countries affected.

I know for a fact that its not an issue for NZers - I buy books all the time which are the same price as they would be for an US-based customer, I also know Australians who say the same, and people from Malaysia who say different!

Oh I see - new as of December 1st, 2011. I.e. this month. Just now.

Such a welcoming forum!

Not sure what you point is - the list of countries with the surcharge was reduced when Amazon opened Kindle stores in several European countries recently. Amazon did the same thing when the extended the Kindle availability to NZ several years ago.

Your original statement was still wrong, you asked for a link, I provided it. It just happens to be a topic I've researched. How exactly is that unfriendly?

asmcar:  Have you got yours in a case? If so where did you get it from? Looked at some generic ones on eBay etc but all seem pretty similar. Thought about the lighted amazon official case but a bit pricey really when you consider the cost of the kindle itself.

yeah agreed on "official" case, I have ordered (from Amazon) but not yet recived:

Marware Eco-Vue for Kindle and Kindle Touch Cover, Black
Verso Clip-On Reading Light for Kindle (Graphite)

wil let you know how they look

BraaiGuy: Received this message from Amazon a while ago after I purchased a book, with a US registered kindle in NZ
I see that you attempted to purchase "XXXXXXXXXXXX" while in a different country than the United States listed on your Amazon account.  Certain Kindle titles are not available everywhere.

If you have moved to a different country, you can easily update your country for your Amazon account at www.Amazon.com/manageyourkindle

So book prices may in fact be the same, but the content is definitely different between here and in the US.

Im guesisng you can just create a new US account if they do that and gift the books ot the old account.. and around it goes :-)

After some thought, I think I would prefer the kindle without a case, I can't stand the look of the elastic over the edge cases.

I am now looking at just getting a sleeve for my touch, as I really just want something to keep it in while travelling with it, currently I am keeping it in its box still.

The sleeve that is highest rated on amazon is this one here: http://www.builtny.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BS&Product_Code=neoprene-sleeve-for-kindle-touch , it will do what I need it to do by the looks of it.

Only thing is the cost could end up quite high for what it is, $30 NZD for the sleeve + Around $30 NZD for shipping from USA to NZ (Estimate). I would get it shipped to shipito which will incur a $8.50 USD mail out fee + Shipping cost, not really to sure whether it's worth it.

I havent bought a case for the touch yet.
If I am going to get one, I might just get a $10usd one from deal extreme, these 10 bucks cases are for K4 but would suit the Touch as well.

Am currently on planning on purchasing the Kindle Touch, was initially thinking of getting it shipped through comGateway but had a look at Shipito and preferred the rates on there.

Has anyone had anything shipped via Shipito recently and the shipment has been prompt, I noticed they were having a few issues at the beginning of the month?
If it was comGateway vs. Shipitto, what would you go with?

Also am wondering about a case for the Kindle touch, should I buy with the Kindle Touch or from somewhere else?

I bought my Touch at the end of November via Shipito.
It took a week and half to get to NZ

I disagree - I bought my partner the non-touch version - and my question is - where do you put your fingers ? I found I was touching the screen when holding the reader - which is a problem surely? Also I think it would be a pain to find the right place to touch the screen - I can find the buttons to turn pages without looking or loosing my place in the text - I think i'd have to look to touch in the right place.

Funny thing is you dont even think about it.. maybe years of owning ipads, iphones and other touch devices. you just tap the screen, it turns. swiping up goes back a chapter, down advances one. very top of screen (which you dont tend to touch normally) is menus.  I dont know about others but works just fine for me .
Each to thier own? all kindles are good, and if the only arguent is about which model-- thats a succesful product!

I'm thinking about getting a 3G Touch, but no-one's said if the whispernet service works for downloading books wirelessly via 3G here in NZ using a NZ-registered Amazon account. Can one of you guys who've imported one please clarify this?

Just placed my ordered with Amazon for the Kindle Touch and am using ComGateway for shipping. For those that have used that service did you fill in invoice details straight away on ComGateway? Also did you put the invoice value in US$ or NZ$?

Lastly, how long did your order take to arrive approximately using standard/non-express shipping?

Thanks.
