Dingbatt: @SepticSceptic You have to specify a location each time you ask for the weather, otherwise it defaults to giving you the weather in Seattle. This is the case since the option to set an address outside the USA has been removed (because to US companies nothing exists outside the USA).
For example, "Alexa, what's the weather like in Auckland Nu Zeeland". Hoping it will be fixed once Amazon descends on this part of the world, although that may just mean it defaults to Melbourne if you don't specify a location!

The hardest part was sourcing the Alexa APK, luckily I have a US iTunes account, so I used that for the iPad, and did the initial setup that way.
Not sure about your shopping list and music though as I just used my echo dot for automation functions. In fact most of the stuff is done by my Google Home.

Thanks Dingbatt, and others for the pointers.

I'll manage to mess it up somehow :-)

Remember, this device was developed with American shoppers in mind, so you are going to need to try really hard if you want to mess it up :-)

Since updating my address in the alexa APP to a new zealand one, I can just ask what the weather is or 'alexa will I need an umbrella today?', I live in takapuna and it defaults to Forrest Hill which I guess is the nearest listed weather location.

As for shopping list I use Todoist linked to the alexa list and shared to my wifes phone so we can both add/view/complete items via alexa or on our phones.

Like you I was able to set my NZ address, but I think Amazon has subsequently closed that loop hole. Now you can't enter a NZ address.

Yes, I got my address (a 6037 post code) and if I ask "What's weather" it correctly say "Currently in Ohariu, New Zealand". I don't have to say the city or country.

Now that Amazon closed that... I won't change it!

I actually wondered if this should be in a thread of its own as it really only pertains to Amazon Echo Show.

Regarding amazon echo show has anyone got security cameras operating an viewable through a skill in the Echo Show?

I have a V380 camera that would be cool to connect to through Alexa. Rather than go out and get another camera like the ezviz

evilengineer:

Looks like there are new generation of Echo devices on the way.

A next-gen Echo which looks to be trying to kill off the Apple homepod before it's even released and an Echo-plus with a built in smart home hub:

https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/27/16375984/amazon-echo-plus-hands-on-impressions-photos

Looks like the Echo-plus has a Zigbee radio but not Z-wave. So the US version should be good to go in NZ.

Who's buying? laughing

Homepod looks good though!!!

Me too, managed to get my address in before they closed it. Won't help me much though as I am moving to Paraparaumu. That is, other than to be reminded that I should have stayed in Napier for the weather :D

Hopefully they will open their Australian and New Zealand store soon, and it should hopefully be back.

All I managed to set my NZ post code via a simpler than expected process last night. I don't want to post a guide here in case they close that hole too. If anyone is keen PM me.

I now get the correct weather etc for my suburb.

Got a few PM's - more than expected. I'll type up a guide and flick it out ASAP.

Me too.

While I found the instructions easy to follow, I still wasn't able to change my location... just have to wait until Amazon open up their software a little more.
