TeaLeaf:

2. If prime TV is not tecnically allowed in NZ how does this all work, do we still have to go around with a DNS and fake address etc to get Amazon services? Fire TV, is there anything else I need to be aware of. Its as good as google chrome but includes more?

No VPN or fake IP addresses required. Amazon Prime works fine through my New Zealand purchased Samsung smart TV. The choice of original programmes from Amazon is equal to and at times better than Netflix...

All sorted, the purchase of a Kindle for my wife as smoothed the way for my Echo Show. It should arrive just after New year.

Wow! When I ordered this on Saturday (24th Dec) it was advertised at $150. The price now is $230... so I've already saved $80 (all prices in US dollars).

Must stop thinking what I can buy with my new 'saving'

It's coming...

Alexa, the brain behind Amazon Echo, is coming to Australia and New Zealand, along with three Alexa-enabled devices: Amazon Echo, Echo Plus, and Echo Dot. This opens up new opportunities for developers worldwide.

To enable you to reach more customers, we plan to migrate your existing US/UK skill(s) to Australia and New Zealand. To do this, we will create an English (AU) variant of your existing English (US/UK) skill(s) by copying over all skill details, endpoint information, publishing information, and intent schema. This will make the skill(s) available to customers in the US/UK/Australia and New Zealand, in English (US), English (UK), and English (AU), respectively.

The migration will begin on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 8 am PST. Please note: If you manually add an English (AU) variant to your skill in the developer portal and submit for certification, your skill will be excluded from the migration. Read our FAQs to learn more. Please contact us if you’d like to opt out of this migration.

I hope that my echos dont talk aussie if I change this over. Based on how many people in the UK are complaining about skills not being moved over to there from the US, I expect that leaving it on US will be the best option unless there is some amazing local skill that comes out which wont work with it set to it.

Interesting they are only bothering with the basic echo devices and not the ones with screens on them.

My Google Homes are set to 'Strayun. While it grates initially, you do get used to it. With such a small user base I can understand why not too much effort is put into the Kiwi accent. I just wish both Amazon and Google would realise there is a world outside the US as far as skills integration with third parties goes.

I noticed that too. Very handy as before Christmas I purchased Amazon Echo's for all of my team at Gorilla Technology. And this morning I had Alexa telling me how long my commute to the office would take and which route was the fastest.

Changed my Echo Plus while at work and will change my Echo Show when I get home.

Is there any reason why the Alexa app has been changed to allow this?

I mean, has there been an announcement about Amazon formally recognising NZ?
