Is anyone interested in running their Limitless lights using IFTTT?

I've built my own Limitless Cloud Server which can be used with the IFTTT maker channel. Its a really easy REST API. I use it to turn my lights on and off at sunrise/sunset and various times in between.

It's now stable and I'm looking for any interested Limitless users to continue testing before I make it public.

Interesting idea. Ive turned my gateways off at the moment since I have been having "really weird stuff" happening on the LAN, so have kicked all the gear off it and am connecting one at a time to see when it comes back, so cant try it out right away but am interested.

How does it work? Connct the gateways back to your cloud thru the config software, or do you connect to their cloud service from your own server?

What latency are you seeing? I was seeing really bad latency when I tried my wemo's via IFTTT so gave up on that.

Red is the default colour when you first reset the firmware inside the bulb. So from that, its in its default state ready to go. The best thing to ensure that the mcu stops running, is remove the bulb from the socket, give it 30 seconds to drain any capacitors, then plug it back in, and within 2 seconds press the on button on the remote, and then do the same again in the iphone app, assuming you already have the wifi bridge set up.

I also tried keeping the on buttons on both the remote and android app, and then turning on the power to the light, and also the same with the S+ button. But none of these work.

It needs to be a short press to pair. If you hold it down, or if it is being pressed as you turn on then it will not pair. I found.

Whats the depair process for the new ones? I have inadvertantly put 3 of them on one button of my remote.

@gchiu yes as long as your Echo can call a URL it will work.

@richms in terms of latency I haven't seen any latency when testing. My server is on AWS in the US and the lights pretty much turn on instantly. IFTTT is a bit funny with timers as even if you say 11pm the trigger usually fires just after (note they only have 15 minute intervals and specify that it may be a few minutes late depending on queues etc).

In terms of your LAN weirdness when I moved to 2 degrees and got a Fritzbox I had a terrible time with my gateways. I got a new V5 gateway and haven't had any problems since.

In terms of config you need to use Hamish's Windows App to update the cloud server URL for the gateway. This does mean that you lose remote access (ie 3G) from the default app.

Its not the limitless that are causing the weirdness, its an overall weirdness where I am losing access across some of the switches to parts of the lan. I have a mix of managed, smart and dumb switches which I think may be causing it, but for now have pared things right back to see if it is still happening. Most likly I think it might be some spanning tree weirdness happening but I dont really know enough to test that theory out and with the mix of switches its hard to know.

The limitless is just one of many things I have taken out of the equation for now, I also have about 12 wemos, several different brands of chinese wifi switches and also some wired automation stuff.

The IFTTT latency I was seeing was with the wemo channel, like setting up when one wemo turns on to trigger others. 20-30 seconds was not uncommon there.

I finally got it to pair. It doesn't work with the main on/off switches at the top of the remote. I had to use the on button on one of the group switches at the bottom of the remote.

@richms interesting. I've also been having problems with my Wemo switches lately. No latency like that but the (Android) app just crashes all the time, doesn't work on the LAN (but does over 3G).

I had to reset one of my phones recently and it meant getting the latest wemo app. Wanted to firmware update everything and what a turd! Had to update all the other phones and tablets to the latest one and its constantly crashing. I suspect that they test them with 3-4 devices only in their labs.

The alexa support for the plugs is the only thing keeping me still using them. Trash software, lousy giant hardware and real problems with actually doing what it says they will do. Orange light flashes on the plugs all the time. Doc's say that means wifi is weak. Really. 2m from a dual band accesspoint and it is weak? 100% signal in the unifi dashboard is not weak.

I was in the process of getting the radio from my first gen wifi bridge that only did B/G wifi onto a raspberry pi's SPI port but got interupted with having to clear out a basement of mums old house so packed it all away to make room in the garage for more junk to sort out. But if I can get that working in combination with that code to make a fake philips base station for the hue that alexa can talk to then goodbye wemo.

If you watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTC4KzAy45w he uses a local web server from what I can tell and fakes a wemo device. I believe he fakes a wemo device as this is one of the channels available on IFTTT.

What Im developing is a replacement for the Limitless cloud server that works with IFTTT. All you would do is repoint your wifi bridge to my server and you can then use it with IFTTT.

Once its IFTTT compatible you can call it from any IFTTT trigger (location, time, sunrise, text etc) or integrate it with Alexa.

It's just the server that the recent revs of board use to give access when not on the same LAN. The way it works is that annoying way where once the app has seen the device on the LAN it has all the details for remote control of the gateway like wemo so be careful who you let on your LAN.
