Hi Hamish,

So am I right in saying the bridge itself supports DHCP, but the app is hardcoded to 192.168.1.100?

Are you looking to enhance the app to support any IP address selection?

Hi Ben,

yes the wifi bridge is a standard wifi client (default mode is as adhoc wifi server) with http server for admin settings.

In the last post I mention that using our v2 app you can specify the ip address of 1 or more wifi bridges. (only v1 app is hardcoded)

Using the iPad/iPhone app you can rename each wifi bridge: i.e. "Downstairs" and use the 5 zones like dining(white x4bulbs), lounge(white x6bulbs), breaky bar (white x2bulbs), kitchen white (x6bulbs) , lounge wall (rgb color x2)

and you can add another wifi bridge to the iPad/iPhone app i.e "Upstairs" and use another 4 white zones (unlimited bulbs) and 1 rgb zone (unlimited bulbs) each zone is controlled together as a group.

and using any combinations you like, you can then just use for example 1 remote that can pull together any bulbs into its zones. i.e 2 of the 6 lounge and 3 of the kitchen and assign them to one of the group on/off buttons. and some of the upstairs lights on to the same remote. etc. there are not actually that many limitations when it comes to white zones and any combinations you like. rgb is a little limited with 1 rgb zone per rgb remote and 1 rgb zone per wifi bridge. but I am working on designing more zones into rgb at the moment.

Whats the app from the front page of the site? Looks like a nicer UX but the iphone and android app i got dont look like it

the front page ui gfx is part of same iphone xcode project and we made the UI better to what it is now. I have started making a skinnable type system so the users can change the background pictures etc also, our FAQ lists some of the new features we are working on also. I have made skin systems before on Android and WindowsCE4.2.

Yep - got mine today as well. Have got it working via the remote and cycled through all the sequences. It isn't super bright, but I wasn't expecting it to be. It will be interesting to see how it looks at night. So far, pretty impressed. Don't think I will use the sequences much, but it is nice to be able to adjust the colour using the dial on the remote - to a tone/colour that suits.

However, I am having trouble getting the WIFI bridge working. I can reset it and connect to 'wifi-socket', then go through the steps in your guide, but it won't connect to my home network.

I have tried enabling DHCP and disabling (and specifying 192.168.1.100 etc) but neither works. It seems like it is failing to even connect to my network, but I have double checked the SSID and password (I have attempted this 3-4 times so am confident there wasn't a typo every time!).

My network is WPA2 Personal (TKIP+AES encryption) on DD-WRT.

Any ideas Hamish?

Can you try changing your encryption type in your router to see if that makes a difference?

I just though of something (hopefully my bulbs show up today - courier is showing them arriving in Auckland and being handed off to another carrier - we don't have Fastway couriers where I live) - Can you make the RGB bulbs output White? Warm White? On the colour whell in Hamish's App, there is no white.

Ok - got it working. I have an second AP (WRT54GL) running DD-WRT in my office (to extend my G network down this end of the house - it is hardwired to my main router).

That is setup with the same SSID and password as the main router.

I tried changing the WRT54GL AP to Mixed (it was set to G only) and now all of a sudden the WIFI bridge is successfully connecting to the main router.

So it seems like the AP in G Only mode was somehow blocking the bridge? Not sure why it wouldn't connect though, cos the main router (WNDR3700) has dual antenna - and the 2.4GHz is configured as G Only which the bridge is now connecting to.

Odd.

Ok - well I can report the WIFI bridge is working and the v2 app on my iPhone is controlling the lights perfectly. The instructions could definitely do with a tidy up (and consolidation) but all in all I am pretty happy with my purchase. Looking forward to seeing them in operation at night now.

Just wish I had more places I could put these - all my main lights are GU10 fittings...

Ah sorry - yes I got RGB ones - and yes, in the list of 'sequences' the first one is a white/constant light.

Haven't worked out how to activate the 'Night Light' feature on the RGB lights yet...

Is the v2 app the one in the app store written by Mingjie lin?

Would be cool if the RGB App had a button that just cycled Cool White, Warm White and maybe night light, or even a seperate button up by the on/off for night light.

I'm sure they'll get there.

Yep - 'Wifi Controller 2' by Mr Lin. Yeah they could definitely flesh out the app a bit. Hopefully it improves over time. Hope yours turn up today!
